This is unbelievable. ESPN is reporting that LeBron James just signed a contract with Nike for an estimated $100 million over 7 years. It is primarily a shoe contract, but it is believed that there will be a whole line of apparel with his name on it. You talk about being in the right place at the right time. Kobe Bryant's contract with Adidas expires next month and it is believed he will sign for around $6 million total. Obviously Kobe is the better player at this point in their lives, but LeBron is expected to connect to the inner city youths and the rest of the athletic shoe buying public. I have no idea how he will make that much money for them. It is believed that Nike doesn't really believe LeBron will make them enough money to justify this contract, but they were afraid that if he were to sign with Reebok (the other major player in thsi negotiation) that Reebok could gain a huge advantage in market share and reputation by signing James.

That is ridiculos. A high school boy is not worth that much money.

I totally agree. Instead of signing someone to connect with inner city kids, $100 Million could put a lot of those kids through college. Unbelievable.
