Not really NASCAR so move this thread where ever you like. I wasn't sure of the appropriate forum. Anyhow, I thought some of you may find this interesting.....

Bruton Smith has put up a $1,000,000.00 worth of payouts for over three nights of racing on CMS's 1/4 mile infield oval. It all starts Thursday and continues through Saturday night. Saturday night's 100 lap finale will be broadcast on SPEED. Saturday night's winner will receive $250,000.00

I imagine there will around 800 legend cars there for the race.

wow, straight into the flag stand?

Nick said they're fun to drive...nobody said they can't pretend to be open wheel cars...

I just talked to the mother of one of the drivers and she said there around 200 cars there for the Million.

From the CMS web site.....

Nearly 300 drivers from 36 states and two foreign countries have registered for this one-of-a-kind race featuring a total purse of $1 million.

Competitors who register for the Legends Million must register in one of three divisions: Young Lions/Semi-Pro, Masters or The Legends Million, which is open to all drivers.

Each division will run heat races and an A-Main race, with the Legends Million A-Feature serving as the grand finale of the three-day event. The winners of the Masters and Semi-Pro/Young Lions division A-Main races will earn an unprecedented $30,000 and $25,000, respectively.

Live and in HD Saturday night on SPEED. Pre-race starts @ 7:30.

Veteran motor sports broadcaster Dave Despain will host SPEED's live and exclusive coverage of the inaugural Legends Million from Charlotte Motor Speedway on July 17 at 7:30 pm/et. Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds and Phil Parsons will call the race for SPEED with Matt Yocum and Marty Snider working the pits.

The inaugural Legends Million Weekend got underway Thursday with more than 350 cars taking to the frontstretch quarter-mile oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Doug Stevens was the night's fastest overall qualifier during time trials, which set Friday's heat race lineups.

Rain canceled the local races so I decided to watch the legends at Charlotte. Some fun racing to watch.

I really enjoyed watching these races. The winner did a great job of hanging with the leader and finally overtaking him. Two twelve year olds finished ahead of Geoff Bodine.

In an earlier post a youtube.com website showed Jason Rochelle getting tangled with another legends car and ends up flipping into the starters stand. Last night at Charlotte, the same Jason Rochelle was in a heated battle for third place in one of the last qualifier races where they took only the top two for the 100 laps race and million dollar purse. Jason was making a last lap move and got tangled up in turn three/four, spun and ended up sixth.
Jason's father, Paul, raced modifieds in the northeast in the sixties and seventies and his brother Paul, Jr. raced prior to illness. Another brother Craig, races sprint cars in Pennsylvania.

Those legends cars really put on a show. Great job guys.

And as another aside, check this out:
A fan steals the pace car!

But that's not all, go down the page and notice the column on the right titled, This Day in Motorsports, 1973 and the article about Will Cagle. I used to watch Cagle race in the northeast during the early '60's and '70's. He and Buzzie Reutimann, Rags Carter, Al Tasnady, and so many others were the best of the best!!
