Wish that I was on ole rocky top,
Down in the tennessee hills.
Aint no smoggy smoke on rocky top,
Aint no telephone bills.

Once there was a girl on rocky top,
Half bear the other half cat.
Wild as a mink, sweet as soda pop,
I still dream about that.

Rocky top, youll always be
Home sweet home to me.
Good ole rocky top,
Rocky top tennessee, rocky top tennessee.

Once two strangers climbed on rocky top,
Lookin for a moonshine still.
Strangers aint come back from rocky top,
Guess they never will.

Corn wont grow at all on rocky top,
Dirts too rocky by far.
Thats why all the folks on rocky top
Get their corn from a jar.

Rocky top, youll always be
Home sweet home to me.
Good ole rocky top,
Rocky top tennessee, rocky top tennessee.

Now Ive had years of cramped up city life,
Trapped like a duck in a pen.
Now all I know is its a pity life
Cant be simple again.

Rocky top, youll always be
Home sweet home to me.
Good ole rocky top,
Rocky top tennessee, rocky top tennessee.

Rocky top tennessee, rocky top tennessee.
Yeah rocky top tennesee eee eee eee.

Pride and Tradition

The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets has more members in the military than either service academy or any other ROTC program.

But since the topic is football, a short history of Texas Aggie football.

A short review of the "Twelfth Man" and the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, the largest marching band in the entire United States of America !!!!!!

Whizzer...Nobody wants to go to any Aggie site! Once there one would prolly find it to be full of typos and photos of the WRONG team!
Your links are most likely going unused.. Now if they were teasipper links they would be worn out..
Betsy:D

I'm glad Whiz chimed in,Betsy. That's what makes College Football one of the greatest sports, Imo. The traditions, rivalries, etc. In defense of the Texas agricultural and mechanical school...they prepared early for the possible coming of Hurricane Dean...kudos to them !!:p

Howdy CT

I wonder how many aggies had those photos to go right over their heads? Whiz prolly will have to go back and research them again after reading this..

Two Aggies go on a fishing trip. They rent all the equipment - the reels, the rods, the wading suits, the rowboat, the car, and even a cabin in the woods.

The first day they go fishing, but they don't catch anything. The same thing happens on the second day, and on the third day. It goes on like this until finally, on the last day of their vacation, one of the men catches a fish.

As they're driving home they're really depressed. One Aggie turns to the other and says, "Do you realize that this one lousy fish we caught cost us fifteen hundred bucks?"

The other Aggie says, "Wow! Then it's a good thing we didn't catch any more!"

:) :) :) :)

Do you know what they call a Texas Aggie after they graduate ??????

:) Boss.....or Lieutenant.:)

Not often enough but the Aggies sure upset the "tea party" in '06 !!!!

Good Bull !!!! GIG'EM AGGIES !!!!!

I enjoyed that, Whizzer. Wish I could find one of the band --- I love to watch them. You just don't get to see much during halftime. *sigh*

And those seniors in their boots --- cool.

Shoot, I remember the days when they played good football in Texas. When they had the Southwest Conference and Darrell Royal coaching Texas and Dandy Don playing for SMU. Now those were the days. :)

As per your request, TRL,

youtube.com/watch?v=o29Q7T3oBV8&mode=related&search=

This is one of the better sounding videos and shots of the formations on youtube. There are many there but this one has decent sound.

Relax and enjoy the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band !!!!!!!

Thank you, Whizzer. That band just sends chills up and down my spine. I could watch them for hours.
I don't know of another band that does the complicated maneuvers that the Aggies make look so simple.

(((HUGS)))

If a college band does that for you, what would a championship drum and bugle corps do for you? It's one thing for the kids of college age to come together with the precision they have, but quite another for the younger drum corps members. I only wish that I could witness more drum corps contests. I was a drum and bugle corps member of the Lackland AFB drum corps when I was in the AF way back in '68. Played the soprano bugle and yes, I had to play Taps now and then at 9:00 p.m. for the base. At that time, I was privileged to witness the US Marine Corps official Drum and Bugle Corps when they were in town (San Antonio) for the Parade of Flowers (our corps also marched in that parade). The college kids can and are absolutely wonderful and for most of them, it's their major so they have to be good. But those teenagers and up to 21 year olds who volunteer through the years to play in a corps to be where they are, it's amazing. And, in my humble opinion, they play better music...or at least the better corps.

buck, I was in the drum and bugle corps at my high school. Don't know if we were great, but we sure thought so. :)

We were the first and largest of the marching corps in the city of Houston.

Sadly, they've all disappeared.

Mebers of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band are highly drilled and trained musicians as well as ROTC students living under strict military direction, 24/7.

The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band is the largest military marching band in the United States. The band is famous for it's unique style of military precision drill and performs at each Aggie home football game in front of crowds exceeding 86,000. The band also travels and performs drills at many of the Big 12 conference away games. The band also participates in special events including the Presidential Inauguration Parade in Washington D.C., Corps Trip Parades, and other various dedications, and ceremonies.

The Aggie Band practices between 2-3 hours daily and in total 10-15 hours weekly in order to execute their marching drill. Over the course of one football season, the Aggie Band will have performed 8-12 individual marching drills; a different drill for each football game that the Aggie Band attends.

The infantry and artillery bands, which form the combined band, are the two largest units in the Corps of Cadets

Some of the Aggie Band's maneuvers are so complex that a computer says that it is impossible to do because they require two people to be in the same place at the same time .

The members of the Aggie Band are also members of the Corps of Cadets. Aggie Band members train, live, eat and are housed together as a unit of the corps.
A Day in the Life of an Aggie Cadet (Spring Semester)
0630-0710: Rise, prepare for classes, clean Room
0710-0800: Morning Formation & Breakfast
0800-1630: Study, attend classes, personal time
1630-1830: ROTC Physical Training/Outfit Training
1830-1930: Evening Formation & Dinner
1930-2200: Call to Quarters (required study time)
2200-2230: Personal time
2230-0630: Sleep

During the Fall Semester, cadets will practice drill Monday-Thursday mornings from 0620-0720 hours and then at 1800-1900 hours every Friday afternoon and then will attend classes starting at 0800 hours.

There are approximately 350 cadets that are members of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.

Some of the most famous maneuvers the Aggie Band drills include: the "4-Way Cross" through, "Sawing Varsities", the 2 and 4 step counter-march, the "Block-T Formation", as well as numerous letter recognitions (125 for the 125th Anniversary of the Corps of Cadets, USA for Red, White, and Blue out).

No question the youngsters in high school drum and bugle corps work and train hard. At this level, the combined distractions of marching practice, maintaining specific grade point averages and dealing with military life are solid foundations and character builders.

And this for the Texans on the forum, or anyone else.

I have absolutely nothing but respect for any college student, whether they are in the band, sports or what. I would like to say however that those students are preparing for a carreer whether it's in music, millitary or anything else and what's more, most of the students have to pay for all of this. The younger drum and bugle corps, while it's true that some have to pay for their inclusion, are there for one thing and that is to learn and play because they are devoted to the drum and bugle corps.

Those Aggie kids really must like what they do. Even when I was in the drum and bugle corps in the Air Force, I didn't have to do half of what they are going through and no classes either. Gotta really admire them.

But, they are afterall, just Texas Aggies.  :p Their task is to whoop the stuffing out of them Longhorns. :bounce:

my girlfriend when in High School was the Head Majorette.....does that count for anything. :)

It's the first Saturday of College Football Season :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
I love a good game, regardless of who is playing, but if I have to choose a favorite I think It's Great To Be A Miami Hurricane!

How about that Appalachain State Team knocking off #5 ranked Michigan. Way to go Appalachain. :beerbang:

GA Bulldogs WON! Sorry Buckster (NOT).

Kat, this buckaroo doesn't root for those Cowboys, never have. I'm a Sooner fan and we whooped North Texas butt yesterday. Now if they can just beat the real Texas team... :)

Now I gotta run from all those Texas people.......
