"I think there are only three things America will be known for 2,000 years from now when they study this civilization: the Constitution, jazz music, and baseball." Gerald Early

"Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical." Yogi Berra

"There are a lot more important things in life than baseball. I just haven't found out what they are yet." Marty Schupak

I do not like baseball, and you most likly will never find me at a game. been to one big time game and that blew it for me........a ball went in the stands, and i got it but i was real little and one of the players said toss it back so i did......(i did not know anybetter) the players walked off with the ball, i was called an idiot by ppl, and the players were called assholes for taking it from me. and it may sound stupid but i have hated baseball since.

Baseball is an awesome game. People who like tradition should be in heaven with baseball. There are so many "unwritten" rules of conduct that it is entertaining in and of itself.

Such as...

If your player is hit by a pitch, you better hit one of their players or you are not a team player. And the player you hit should be at least as good of a player as the one they hit.

You don't steal a base when your team is up by too many runs or you are considered to have "shown up" an opponent. Doing so may incite the above string of events by getting one of your players hit.

Although it is waning somewhat in today's game, you aren't supposed to admire a home run you just hit (or celebrate it in any other fashion) too long or you are considered to have "shown up" the opposing pitcher and will likely be hit by a pitch your next time up.

You are not supposed to bunt in an attempt to break up an opposing pitchers no-hit or perfect game bid. That is somehow considered a breech of etiquette.

Funny stuff really, but it makes the game so unique.

I like to watch it live but I don't watch it on tv or keep up with it

I love baseball. Nothing in this world relaxes me the same way sitting at the ballpark on a glorious summer evening watching a game. I played baseball for years, was actually quite a good second baseman and could hit a ton. So I understand a lot of the strategy behind pitch location, pitch selection, etc etc that a more casual fan might not latch onto.

I go through seasons when I care more or care less about baseball than other sports. A lot depends on how my team is doing, but not always. I can watch two teams I abhor play ball and enjoy it, and I suppose that's as good a litmus test as any as to whether one is a true fan.

The intimidation of a Randy Johnson...the precision of a Greg Maddux...the power of a Pedro Martinez...the majesty of a home run off the bat of Barry Bonds or Sammy Sosa or Raphael Palmiero or a hundred other guys...the wizardry in the field of an Omar Vizquel or a Torii Hunter...the personalities like Lou Pinella and Nomar's pre-at bat ritual and the gracefulness of Derek Jeter...ya either get it or ya don't.

I like to watch baseball, but not that much. I don't have a fave team or anything. Been to a game before. Its fun, but I prefer watching a race Live.

I get it EMP, and all the excitement around bonds reaching 700? Get right outta town, I couldn't believe it when I heard it, i'm even still excited when I think about how he reached all with the help from performance enhancing drugs...the only drugs the babe used were whisky and cigars...and they sure as hell don't enhance anything except odor. Heck, Hank Aaron didn't even have the nasty booze habits of the babe and still topped him, still though, i'm excited

oh, and being an A's fan, I'm glad they got that pitcher riled up, too bad someone had to get hurt because the littlebaby prima donna couldn't take the jeers of fans...

He will pay very dearly for his inability to act like an adult.

I learned to score a game well before I went to school and coached Little League as well!
