The Little 500, at Anderson Speedway, IN, is, in essence, a small version of the Indy 500. It's held every year the night before the 500 mile race, and ranks up there in awesomeness with the big race itself.
Now in it's 68the year, the Little 500 is run on a 1/4 mile high banked oval, with 33 asphalt sprint cars starting three-wide, running 500 laps. Pre-race pageantry that includes Taps, Back Home Again in Indiana, America the Beautiful, The Star Spangled Banner, and a victory lane that includes a bottle of milk and a giant wreath for the winner.
There's never a dull moment on the track or in the pits. And the pits are pure chaos, with sprint cars doing tire changes *and* being push started by push trucks (even during green flag stops).
If you ever get the chance, everyone should experience this race. As everyone knows, I'm a dirt guy. But still, this was possibly the most awesome short track events I've ever seen.
