World Rallying's media rights owner International Sportsworld Communicators is planning to broadcast worldwide live coverage from up to six rounds of next year's championship.
ISC chairman David Richards said that the recent 100-year commercial agreement with motorsport's governing body, the FIA, allows the sport's promoters to commit to live TV coverage next year.
"Next year we have committed to showing live television coverage from six rounds of the World Rally Championship," said Richards. "And it's important that we get the formula just right.
"Live coverage is made successful by the quality of content that you supply to the producer and we're working on elements like extra camera angles, split times, data from cars and Virtual Spectator graphics to keep the viewer entertained."
Richards said that the events likely to broadcast live stages will be 'in the middle to latter part of the season' and that live stages are vital in taking the sport forward
"It requires substantial financial investment, but it's the next step for the WRC and we're determined to push forward," he added. "I'm confident that it will be a significant development for the sport – television audiences are already rising strongly, and this has to be the next step."
