Today was the first time I've ever had to drive on snow, and let me tell you, it sucked.

People around here CAN NOT DRIVE on the snow whatsoever. It's snowing, that doesn't mean 301 is home to the Waldorf Snowball 500.

Where in hell have you lived? Southern Florida? I've had plenty of practice driving in snow and ice to boot. Living here where I live now, we still get snow now and then, but I'll tell you that I don't miss the stuff at all. When I want my fix of snow, I watch one of my favorite movies, "Where Eagles Dare" and I've had enough.

2 years ago Raleigh got a half inch of snow mid afternoon. The city was grid locked. I kid you not. I live 5.7 miles from work. After being on the roads for 3 hours I finally pulled into an Applebees (or something they're pretty much the same) and had dinner and watched State play VT in BB. When the game was over, ~9, I drove the remaining 3 or so miles home without incident. Even tho the roads were worse as the traffic had finally died down but the slush was beginning to freeze.
Rain, they aren't much better. You have the idiots who are afraid to go over 10 mph mixed in with the other idiots that want to go 60 in a 35. On those days I take an alternate route. It's a bit shorter but takes longer.

Oh lordy, don't get me started. I got my MA driver's license at age 16 during a snowstorm and did just fine.
People around here drive their 4 wheel drives at 50+ on local roads dueing misty conditions, no lights, and without regard for others' safety.
SLOW DOWN PEOPLE!

When i got out of St. Marys in Evansville, IN it was raining. The streets were flooding. The roads in town were 4 lanes, but the "fast" lanes were not flooded as much as the "slow" lanes, we was going 20 or so maybe, and got passed by a few idiots that were doing at last 50, kicking up rooster tails, but about 2 blocks up the road they were parked...they flooded out their car.

Idiots is right!

get a rear wheel drive car and have some fun in the white stuff. pretend you're a dirt track racer!

oops...

probably makes me one of those idiots being talked about! but i got lots a 'sperience.:D

I got a sunfire, and was on a bypass one night, no one else was around. well i slowed down, pulled the e/parking brake and did a 360! went across like 3 of the 5 lanes. I know it was stupid, but at least no one else was around!

Way back last century when I was about Lappys age I had a Corvair Monza. Rear drive, rear engine. Long, wide and low. It was better than the VWs due to its larger wheelbase. It was an absolute dream to drive in the snow.
Unfortunately it was a Corvair...

I remember the Corvair. My Mom's friend had one when I was a mere child. They always crammed all 4 of us kids in the back seat.

Well, we had over 20 inches of snow in 2 days here. I still hate it. Hate it more every year! I think I hate warming up the car and cleaning and scraping it just as much. When my friend was at Ft. Bragg and they got about an inch of snow, everyone was in a panic. He took his Jeep out on the roads and had a riot! He came up to visit one time with a few friends and we were cracking up when they were so excited to see they had crossed the Mason-Dixon line. Yikes... they were in Yankee land!!! LOL

Everyone I know who has moved from here to more moderate climates is totally shocked when cities literally shut down with an inch or two of snow. Heck, we don't even bother shoveling with that little. :) Then again, we have all kinds of idiots up here who think they don't need to bother to clean the snow off their cars and drive like bats outta hell no matter what the weather. That's why there's so many accidents. Morons.

I grew up driving in the snow. It takes at least 2 feet of the stuff to slow me down. Thats fluffy snow mind you. That slimy slick stuff only takes a couple inches.

If its fluffy snow what slows you down is when your bumper becomes a plow.
If its ice, like we get in NC, you're going to slow down or the ditch will slow you down.

First snowfall of the winter is beautiful. The rest suck.

go out and look for that very rare yellow snow...it's preflavored... :D

usually we don't get enough to make snow cream around here. but that's ok, i don't need it anyway.

We had icing the other day (monday), i sprayed de-icer, drove half a mile, could barely see anything because it refroze. thankfully it's only a mile to school.

last year in the dually, the ice was so thick, i drove the mile to school standing on the running board, driving with the door open going 15 MPH in first gear so the engine would stay running. We got out of school early, and the staff were helpign us de-ice our windows, took 3 cans to do the windshield and the front side windows to where i could see enough to get home.

Some of our local drivers cannot drive on dry pavement. They have major problems with red lights.

And stop signs. Today, I was turning into Safeway when some #$% decided to get on the shoulder (where I was trying to go) and sped up to take my real estate. Little effing prik stuck his finger up at me, drove by (on the shoulder where I was trying to turn) and passed me. Then he/she decided to drive back onto the highway.

I was so pissed. I mean that kinda stuff is uncalledfor...

I mean, I do the basic lawbbreaking from time to time (going 10-15 above the speed limit, but nothing drastic). I'm not talking about 45 in a 30 but more like 70 on the main highway (55). Everybody does, nobody cares about that. It's the reckless stuff.

And everyone in Southern Maryland feels it's necessary to slam the brakes when changing lanes.

Why?

Down here, on I35 the speed limit is 70 in cooke county but 60 in denton. Going south, on race weekend there's an array of troopers waiting to make some money. 75 in a 60 is still a good sized ticket.

says he who has also gone 90 MPH on the wrong side of the road in a 3.5 ton tank.

Police force in SOMD ain't tough enough to handle a race. :D

Least i was responsible- it was on the 1 mile of road around here, where you can actually see up to a mile ahead without a hill in the way.

There is a reason that you drive on a certain side of the road. That is not being responsible at all. Does your Dad know this?

doesn't that 3.5 ton tank have a heater????

It's a country thing. You wouldn't understand- roads out here are seldom lined and somebody is always racing somebody.

I know I am wasting my breath but, I live in the country too. Did you watch Dr. Phil last week when he was talking about the teenagers drag racing? It was horrible. In Johnson City not far from here a couple of years ago a couple of guys cut loose drag racing on the streets late at night and 2 18 year old girls were sitting at a red light. One had just been crowned home coming queen at her high school, she was killed. Her friend was badly burned and will never be the same. I'm sure that is not what the 2 guys had in mind when the cut loose but still it happened. It has changed their lives and the families of all forever. Think about what you are doing before you do it. To quote Dr Phil: "What right do you have to drive like that on the roads I have to drive on".

You got to learn to keep an eye on your rear view and crowd them into the ditch where you can. Nothings funnier, trust me.

Also, someone please explain to me why people will be 2 to 3 car lengths behind another car at a stop light.
I like to go around them and pull in front when I can.
The wife is just the opposite, she crowds the bumper in front of her when at a stop light.

Country roads

Take it from somebody who's driven up a stretch of road that lasted 45 miles. Not fun.

This road led only atrailer at the end of the road. SCARY! It reminded me of the horror movies. We were on this road for 60 minutes and didn't see a single car.

We ewre flying though, probably doing 80 or 90 trying to get back to civilization.

I think somehow this is ESPNs fault;)
