hi everyone, my name is James and I'm coming to visit the US for 3 weeks in September, from Cambridge, UK. I can't wait, together with american football and baseball, Nascar is on my list to experience!! I'm heading for the west coast, California although I'm struggling to drill through the so many different leagues, states to workout if there's a race in the California area between the 18th September to mid October!! :( Can anyone help/ suggest what race to see as my first experience! I'm hoping there's a race event whilst I'm in the US.

Many thanks!

Hey James , welcome to the forum . Don't think there are any races that you can easily get to except maybe the truck race in Las Vegas on Sept. 28th I think . Check their website for tickets and info. One on the driver's family has a hotel there and a lot of the teams frequent that hotel and casino , it would be neat to stay there . If you go , we'd love to hear about it.

Cheers James, welcome to the forum! You'll no doubt see lots of good suggestions here.

As ted wrote already, all of the NASCAR races will be on the east coast between September and October. If you're stuck in California, and it's in your budget, you might consider checking out the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience at Auto Club Speedway near L.A. I haven't done that one myself, but worked for the Richard Petty driving experience and also did that as a customer, and they're probably quite similar.

Enjoy your visit, and please keep us posted on your adventures!

There are 2 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West races in California during that time period. It's the NASCAR series below the truck series. They use the old Cup Series cars from a few years ago. 150 Lap short track races. They run at some of the cup tracks such as Phoenix, Sonoma and Iowa. Tickets for those usually go for about $20-30. During that time There is one at All American Speedway (Sacramento Area) and one at Kern County (Bakersfield).
List of the schedule here: http://nascar.ca/races/NCWSW

Welcome James .. Will you be in Northern or Southern California?

Buy a plane ticket and watch a chase race on the East Coast... If it is simply just out of the question, rent a car, enjoy the geography, and some lower tier racing in California.

Sounds like you are going to be busy and I hope you can find the time to do everything you want to while you are here. If you are going to be in Southern California, the trucks in Las Vegas would be the way to go if your schedule is clear that Saturday. Hope you enjoy your visit.

thanks for the replies guys. I'm kind of looking at doing a mini road trip from san fran to check out the bridge, yosemite national park, LA although I dont know whats there really to visit, vegas for the obvious (grand canyon/ hoover dam), hopefully utah for that background photo opportunity then down to san diego as I hear its really nice and by pure chance the miramar airshow is on whilst I'm there so definitely hit that to check out all your (US) latest tech! Going to hire a harley between san fran and la probably but we'll see.. also, would be great to see a baseball/ american football game as well

Any suggestions please feel free! :)

That's a lot of stuff to do in three weeks. Hope you can manage to get some sleep in there somewhere.:D You can probably catch a baseball game the same day you see the bridge, (They are pretty close to each other.) but make sure you have a jacket with you or you'll freeze your butt off. Enjoy yourself and let us know how it turns out.

Yogi's right about taking your jacket. I was in San Fransisco in August a few years ago and remember feeling like it was the coldest I'd ever felt - and I live in the midwest!

Hey James .. I'm in SF so if your looking for other things to do besides the Golden Gate Bridge just let me know what type of stuff your looking for and I can point you in the right direction. I would recommend catching a Giants game, the ballpark is the best in the majors. A 49 game would be epic, but good tickets are REALLY hard to get. An Alcatraz tour if pretty cool as well..If you like great beer, do a tour of the Anchor Steam Brewery..Here are some basics you can check out

If you head to Yosemite, make sure you have your accommodations squared away ahead of time. If you ride from there to LA and SD I would recommend getting on highway 152 and take it west to the coast.. From there you can roll down highway 1 along the California coast. It will take a little longer than highway 5 but the views are amazing... Big Sur, Hearst Castle (in San Simeon), Solvang, Santa Monica, etc... Here's a map

Hope this helps..

wow thanks, all the comments are really helpful, I'm blown away with everyone's generosity

I knew a hooker there , but she'd be in her seventies now and you likely wouldn't be interested . :(

James, you may want to check the news regarding Yosemite. There's a major forest fire in that area and some parts of the park may be closed when you get there. Check local reports and be prepared to skip or reduce that part of your trip, especially if you have lung problems.

If you're driving the 400 miles from San Fran to L.A, you should get plenty of beating and banging along the way. Google a local track when you get here and see some good racing for less.
