Luxury resort offers $19 room-minus bed and TP
The Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- A luxury resort in San Diego is offering rooms for $19 a night - if you don't mind sleeping in a tent.

The Rancho Bernardo Inn boasts three pools, a spa and golf course. It typically charges more than $200 a room.

But business is down. So from Aug. 16 to 31, guests can get a "Survivor Package" that charges them less for each amenity they give up.

For $19, guests give up breakfast, air conditioning, lights, sheets and even the bed. Staff will remove the mattress and headboard and leave a small tent instead.

Oh, and bring your own toilet paper.

General manager John Gates says the hotel hopes people who try the promotion will return at full price.

LOL

Talk about missing the point. It's not luxury if there's nothing luxurious about it. I think I'll go stay at Motel 8, get the same price, but everything you're missing at this place.

Also, I think having no toliet paper has to violate some kind of city sanitation code.

I read the rest of the article and it seems like a great idea. If you think of it as a very luxurious, clean and safe form of camping it is a hell of a deal. Anything to get people into the beds in this economy is a good thing. If people like it and come back and pay regular price later then it will be a great deal for the resort. The customer will also know exactly what they will be getting for their money.

You think it is too much trouble to bring a few rolls from home or pick up a 4 pack on the way? Wow. I guess my hillbilly upbringing has it's advantages in a lot of ways.

Yeah, mine too. I was wondering if they have any old sears catalogs or pine cones lying around? If they do, it's game on.:beerbang:

I think you're confused BO. At what point did I say BYOTP was a problem?

I just simply stated that it might violate health codes if they don't provide it. Hopefully they checked with the city before doing this. As long as it's OK with the city, and they tell the guests ahead of time I don't see a problem.

It's silly stunt, and I doubt anyone who does this will return to pay full price. Unless they were the type willing to pay $200/night in the first place.

We are putting the cart ahead of the horse here...it IS still in a room with bathroom included, right? If I read it right anyhow.

Im thinking a bathroom without toilet paper would fall more under some sort of bad personal hygiene clause rather than a health department violation.:D

Touche.

You got me there. I suppose you can always take a shower afterwards in place of toliet paper. I just wouldn't want to be the next person to use that bathroom.

Does a bear sh*t in the woods, and wipe his butt with a fluffy white bunny? Nope! He sh*ts in the $19/night penthouse and uses a Sears cataloge and shower.
