Daytona Beach, FL, United States (AHN) - Former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty, the son of driving legend Richard Petty, tended to his broadcasting duties at Thursday's NASCAR Media Day at Daytona International Speedway.
His thoughts remain with his mother, Lynda, however, as the family announced Thursday she is battling lymphoma.
Petty has been a commentator for some time and is retired from driving but Kyle and Richard are both still regular visitors to the track.
Richard Petty has stepped away from his duties at Richard Petty Motorsports, while he attends to wife Lynda, who is battling CNS (Central Nervous System) Lymphoma.
Lynda Petty will be treated at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center.
"We are thankful for the medical team at Duke. My wife Lynda is in good hands," said Richard Petty in a statement. "The doctors and our family are very optimistic that the treatment for this cancer will be successful."
