Mail-carrier...

A mail carrier around Kansas City was fired yesterday after she ACCIDENTALLY mailed a Harry Potter book too soon. This to me is absolute crap!!! It is just a book...your thoughts?

have to agree with ya ward22, this crap where she is suing a little health food shop in NY because they were unaware of the "rules" and placed the only 4 books they had ordered from their distributor out and a news paper bought 1 and printed a story for fridays paper is ludicrous. She wants 1 million, what a greedy wench. she doesnt deserve any more than the money she is to get from the selling of the book.just goes to show you when greed hits the head, you have no morals anymore.

the firing i disagree with, but the lawsuit, i'd do it too....nothin to do with her morals or her money...

you think its ok to eventually close down a small health food shop that was not made aware by its distributors that were and never passed the rules along? over a measly 40.00 and she deserves a million? nah, that just shows society is sue happy and greedy.
I dont mean to direct this at you hooty3, im a ol'man and just think that if you want money it should be earned not taken away from someone else. its not like she has lost anything. I can guaretee that its exactly the opposite. She got exposure a day earlier and the same if not more people will buy the book.

so you think its ok to undermine someone's hard work just because she has lots of cash?....and you'd have to live in a cave not to know the sale date, cause its every where......I bet the daily slipped the owner a nice bundle of cash so they could sell lots of papers and they're just playin dumb about the whole thing...

I don't think there was anywhere near the amount of losses for this lady and her publishers that they're suing for. Maybe the legal expenses and 1.5x the value of the amount of the leaked books, but even that's pushing it. I'm not saying she didn't work hard to put out that book, but let's be realistic here. Would x food company be able to win a $1,000,000 lawsuit against a grocery store because they sold you a pack of gum before it was advertised on television and the like?

99% of lawsuits today are based out of greedy desire to make an example out of other people/companies.

a pack of gum??... .....not quite the same obviously, but yes i think if it was a brand new gum i think that x food company could/would win a settlement....how would you feel if it was you?....and yes, 100 million is excessive and never would be awarded, but that doesn't excuse neither the health store or the daily news....maybe the health store was in the dark, maybe, but the daily news sure wasn't.....either way tho, its not worth much more debate....we disagree mostly and thats fine...this round is on me...

I agree! Isn't she one of the richest women (if not THE richest) in the world??? 1 mil is pocket change, and if she did win the least she could do is give it to a childrens charity!...my opinion anyway.

I know, a pack of gum is not exactly the best analogy, but I just don't see why even a million is a fair settlement, considering that all the Daily News did was publish a preview, it's not like they published the whole book. But I agree though, further debate will prove pointless since we've already argued our sides. :)

If the beer's on you, hell yeah I'll drink to that. (See avatar) :D

Wow. A disagreement that didn't end up in flames. A nice change from what I'm used to

I love it here. B)

Just remember, all.....before the Harry Potter thingy took off, she was a homeless single mother of 2 or 3 kids. It also took her longer to write this book that it did any of the others. Would you want your hard work plastered in a newspaper before it was scheduled for release? I think not. I have to agree with hooty3. The Health Food Store (having only 4 copies of the book to begin with) more than likely didn't know not to sell the book before Saturday. The newspaper on the otherhand, most definitely knew better!

Here's my contribution!
