Major Bristol Announcement

They are turning into a figure 8 track for the 2014 season. Tony Stewart gave them the idea after an RP race :D

Local hotels are footing the bill

Maybe they'll repave Bristol so it's back the way it was in the 90s, where the races were actually exciting!?

Got this in my e-mail a little while ago....ho hum, thought it was something relating to actual racing, football belongs on a football field, not in the infield of a Nascar track. Yeh I know Bowman Grey, but that is totally different!

where are the garrages? they going to tare them down just to play football?

Man, you're not liking much of anything these days. This is nothing more than a 'one off' deal. Not that it really has to be celebrated by anyone but at the same time I can't figure out why anyone would really have a problem with this. College football is kind of a big deal here in the US of A. Promotion for the sport of NASCAR by holding a nationally televised NCAA football game in the infield one of it's premier facilities is damn good advertising IMO.

Could of sworn there were when I was there, my bad....but still a gimmick.

All they have in the infield is the infield care center with victory lane on top of it, the media center with a 'fan zone' on top of it and on the opposite end of the track the Goodyear garage. There's absolutely nothing in between other than the scoring pylon. Every spring/fall race we take part in the track laps for kids. $20 to charity allows you to take your personal vehicle around the track for 10 laps. You can take as many people along with you that your car legally holds. They take you in 30 vehicles at a time. 10 at a time take to the track. When it is not your turn to take laps you can roam around the infield. In the fall this is done on Thursday morning in between the truck race on Wednesday and the Nationwide race on Friday. The place is completely empty with the exception of the Goodyear people mounting all the tires. It's a cool sight to see.

As far as the games goes. Gimmick? Whatever you'd like to call it I guess. It'll bring attention to the sport. I don't look at that as a bad thing at all.

Saw this a few minutes ago.....

The "Battle of Bristol" football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech in 2016 will pay each team up to $4.3 million, according to a term sheet obtained by USA TODAY Sports through a public records request.

The figure is based on a sellout of Bristol Motor Speedway. Each team is guaranteed $3.5 million for 25,000 tickets sold, $3.75 million for 32,500 tickets sold and $4 million for selling out the 40,000-ticket allotment each team will be provided to sell to its fans. Each team will receive an additional $300,000 if the speedway grandstand sells out. Five thousand tickets of each team's allotment are to not exceed $40 in price.

Playing football at a race trak is borderline retarted

Which sport? Bristol sells out bro. And the fact that its held at bristol isn't gonna attract any nascar fans
Sorry bro, wrong on both accounts.

Bristol hasn't sold out in quite some time.

As far as attracting fans..... It will be a pretty big deal the day that this race is broadcast. The cross promotion can't be looked at as a detriment to the sport. To think that is a little short sighted.

Not saying its going to be but it just seems like a bit of an off the wall random scheme
