MAJOR EARTHQUAKE ROCKS HAITI

Have you noticed that unless it's Americans it's not a very big deal no matter how many people die? Not trying to be cold but if this happened in LA it would be on every forum, channel and all over the radio.

Just seems most americans really don't care as long as it doesn't happen here.

Well, you haven't commented about it????
How do you think other countries feel when we get hit???? Probably the same.
Well we didn't waste any time sending aid there:rolleyes:

Well Haiti is a pretty crap country anyway. Maybe people would care more if it was somewhere good like Australia or Japan.

CNN has done an amazing job with its coverage of this disaster. FOX Noise and MsNbc should be taking notes.

Sounds like there are hundreds of thousands of people dead in Haiti.

I feel deeply for the people of Haiti. It is such a poor country and for something like this to hit them is devastating. I really wonder if they can recover. I can't even imagine what they are going through, it must be terrible.

based from the pictures..i dont think they can

The Pesident has just said he is giving $100 mil for the relief effort, is this coming from the same place the bailouts did? Are we printing up money again? While it is terrible what happened there, we need to address the problems in our own country of our own making, rather than be the savior to third world countries. I feel for them, but come on $100 mil plus an aircraft carrier, a hospital ship, cargo planes, I can only imaginme what this is going to cost the American taxpayer!

Geebers Mopar, people are freakin' dying for kraps sake. When all said and done and spread out over all of us AMERICANS it might cost you a whoping ten bucks, if that. BooHoo,poor you.

If you need it that bad send me your address and I'll mail you a check.

<edit> where all the compassionate conservatives dumya touted?

WOW......talk about cold hearted.

Cold hearted no....just feel that we as a country are always shelling out money we don't have, if that is being cold hearted fine. It just doesn't make sense to me that the USA is always the savior to a disaster when i reality it can barely keep its' head above water!

We arent the only ones helping Haiti, but i do suppose that if the President didnt offer up the money you would be one of the ones jumping all over him for not trying to help.

And yes it is cold hearted.

I just find it difficult to believe that in a time of extreme dire need, with people literally dying in the streets, one would comment on how much this is going to cost.
Did you byitch and moan like this over the Tsunami relief in 2004? That was under dumya so it was ok I guess.
Mopar, you claim to be a Independent but like a bleached blonde your right wing whacko roots are showing. Think of something other than your wallet just this once, please.

Don't forget there there are still Katrina victims, including the state, that haven't got help yet....i'm just sayin'....
http://katrina.com/

Yea your right, my inlaws live right on the gulf and lost everything they had in the storm...they used to be 3 houses from the gulf, now they have a gulf view because the people in front of them havent come back, and probably wont. But thats got nothing to do with the govt, its simply because they dont want to rebuild. They are trying to sell a piece of land with a concrete foundation on it.

A lot of the long term problems and rebuilding issues, are insurance problems.

I still think you give some money to help another country that is literally trying to save lives as we speak.

You're right Buck. But from what I understand a lot of them won't leave and some even returned. I get this info from my daughter who is on the FEMA medical team. She went down for a week then accompanied a plane load of them up here. Some stayed, some returned. We became friends with a family that relocated to Mass.

WTH do you think taught me to BBQ? Us Yankees think boiling it till it's dead is good eats. Au Contraie

btw Mopar, both he and his wife work, not getting a dime from the govt. Pay taxes too!

Right now I'm in fear the phone will ring and she says she's been called up.

Nope i wouldn't i'd be applauding him for once.

Give me one reason why I should? And Yeh I ***** about all the damn aid we give out, and i *****ed about it under the Bush admin. Why is it when some one calls an issue out for what it is I'm cold hearted? I'm being practical is all , give them a couple of Million and be done, $100 mil, an aircraft carrier, a hospital ship, and other stuff is costing the US tax payers more than $100 million, of which we can't afford. I guess we can just add it to the national debt like everything else right?

When a person doesn't understnd that it is right to help your fellow man in a time of extreme disaster, then there is no sense in trying to expalin to the individual what is right and wrong in the world.

SST, GoPanthers, Andy, etc, don't waste your time explaining.

So I get it seems all the Libs want to give away the money as usual! I'm for helping to an extent, not to the point where it becomes a burden on our country because we are printing up the money once again!:bsflag:

Its not about Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, its about helping people who are dying as we speak.

raise the BS flag all you want, but when people need help, you help them.

I stick by my statement that your cold hearted.

Oh well...I've been called a lot worse....lol I'm just practical tell me where the money is coming from then? And sometimes you have to know when to say enough is enough. And while I'm at you seem to be smart... why is that the USA is always the one to give these huge amounts of aid away?

We arent the only ones giving aide, many other countries are, and we arent always the "one' that gives aide when its needed.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Maybe because we're the leader in the free world and that we have a standard of living most envy.

Or maybe it's that we have truly have compassion for our fellow man who thru no fault of his own has been hit with a natural disaster that has devastated not only his country but more than likely his family too.

I guess you'd like to see a news blackout so you can play ignorant to those dying in the streets.

btw my offer still stands, I'll send you 10 bucks to cover your share so you can quit whining about the cost. If that's not enough let me know.

in the mean time, i charge everyone on this board to donate a little bit of money to the relief efforts.

My wife and i will be sending a donation today, her company also will offer a matching donation.

Already have as have both my kids. They used some texting link on thier phones. All the major news outlets have links, even the mannity show has a link.
But be warned, don't use the link on the Whitehouse web site. The money donated will end up funding dem candidates and your name will go into a database to be contacted for future contributions for libs.

Has to be true, the drug addled entertainer in chief said it.:D

Don't bother because I'm not spending any of money the government is doing a very good job of that. just because we are the "so called leaders" of the free world doesn't mean we have to be a charity outfit!

I see this place hasn't changed much. I suggest all of you do some homework for yourselves. Search up Congressman Daniel Boone (you do know who he was, doncha?) and read 'Not yours to give' ... aledgedly written by him. Now, wether or not the events described within ever actually took place, the moral is beyond dispute.

I'll be back in a month to see if you've learned anything. Try to surprize me.

"not yours to give" by Daniel Boone? Thought it was Davey Crokett that gave that speech.

My mistake, although an honest one. I was looking at this site
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1914746/posts
as I posted, and the title bar for that page reads

Daniel Boone vs. the Nanny State

Not being an American, I'm sure you can understand that telling one of these historic cowboys from another is a challenge at the best of times. I wouldn't expect any of you to know Mary VI of Scotland from Mary I of England. So please overlook my faux pas and consider the issue: What is gov't offered relief except charity taken from your pocket at gunpoint? There are plenty of relief organizations that your could donate to willingly. Why does the gov't feel the need to take your donation by force?

Simple, they think its the right thing to do and makes us, as a country, look good or better.

The Red Cross is running out of everything, blood, supplies, money. The United Way is blackballed due to contributions going into people's pockets other than where they were suppose to go. The Clinton Foundation is well, run by Clinton's.

Its almost a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of a thing. I'm for helping other countries to an extent, but also expect other countries to do the same.

The US is expected to "lead the way" for something like this but it seems when we need a little something, we don't get much.

Well I'm going to jumped on for this but I don't donate to the Red Cross. Here's why. I heard stories about the RC actions during WWII from my dad and FIL. From my uncles during the Korean war/conflict/police action.

I experienced it myself during a stop over in Nha Trang. We go see the Donut Dollies at the Red Cross, they charged us for coffee and. Down the street was Sal's Army(salvation army). They GAVE us coffee and. RC charged for showers, not Sal. There was a price for anything and everything at the RC whereas Sal gave it away. And Sal's round eye wimminz were better looking too.:D

Fast forward to the fires in Calif. in the 70's or was it the 80's? Instead of helping those in need they bought new computers and office funiture, vehicles, and awarded bonus money to their execs.

I don't donate to anyone who calls me either. I'll take the time to write a check and drop it off at the police, fire, rescue or VN vets,VFW,or American Legion hall.

I then know some shyster telemarketing company isn't pocketing up to 80% of what I donate and what I give is getting where it does the most good.

When we need a little something like we did in Katrina, the world did help.

Katrina was horrible, if you've been down to the Gulf and see how it looks even 5 years later it still brings tears to your eyes. But lets put this in perspective, about 2k people died in Katrina, early reports are saying possibly 100k+ dead in this quake.
