Malaysia could be a possible mess...

Well as in round 1 of the championship in Melbourne Australia, heavy rain is predicted, and not just little showers as in Australia, but thunderstorms and makes things look very interesting for this weekend. High speed track in the rain and limited testing time on a track only ran in the rain once in its three year debut.

hmmm...interesting information from an interview with Mark Webber at the Australian GP, he said a few times, we'll be seeing very interesting times with wet tyres and with the tyre war going on...now what exactly 'interesting' means we just might find out at malaysia, as nothing was a stand out at Australia but is hardly rained at all!!

This is the latest from the weather channel. It seems to me that they pretty much got the weather down to a fine art.

Which brings up a question. Who has the advanage now? Bridgestone wets or Michelins wets?

Well the weekend has arrived, and things look no better. I look for another disaterous weekend for Ferrari, and hopefully Shuie will be the one to find that guardrail. Good luck and gods speed for everyone else!

I don't think ferrari will go 1-2, especially said this after qualifing. Ralf is for sure on a 1 stoper again, I think thats the thing to do espeially in the rain.

Hey Nate looks like Ralf is either on a one stop or had a really bad lap. 17th!?! The Renaults did run light so I would definitly expect them in before lap 10. Ferrari's look to be on a two stop as is most of the field. You theory of running a one stop in the rain isn't right though. They have been stressing all weekend that Malaysia has a very abrasive surface and is also low on grip. Cars will be sliding around enough and tearing tyres up in the dry let alone rain tyres. If it does rain, Renault may very well have an edge. Someone else to look out for is Ralf Firman, although not to be contesting for any points of course but if you saw his hot lap today, that is the loosest F1 I have ever seen. With rain coming in, or if it stays dry, it will be fun to see how long he can keep all four corners intact. As for tyre war and now suiting up for the rain, I really don't have a definite answer, but the case last year was that Bridgestone was very much superior to the Michelin's. Only time can tell and as of now we got a little more than 12 hours to find that answer. Hope everyone stays up late to watch the race, because I will!

hmmmm...yeah that is true, but is the surface low grip because of the actual mixture or because of the heat? Rain would surely cool the tack temp way down. Guess it would have to be a monsoon to slow the cars enough topp keep enough heat out for Ralf to have a chance. The more I think about it the more I can see those long sweep turns just destroying a rain tire if the rain stops. But I guess when you are off pace anyway, you have to try a different path.
I feel that Michelin makes the best tyres in the world, I can't see them lagging that much a year later. Last year the Michelin wets look like they have 5 grooves at speed didn't they? will see if they are the same.
And yeah I will be up for the race :) I recorded the qualifing session last night because I wan't home in time. I will be for the race though.

Well, not exactly that the tyres would be in danger just because of the track drying because thats a given, but rain tyres in general just dont last very long and in a full wet race teams would be most likely to use a three stop to keep the speed and handling up and that is obviously what the Renault guys are planning on doing.

Yea, weather can't always be trusted, but nontheless, if you look at last years F1 and that thats kind of how its supposed to be then the first two races have been messes.
