I think what he meant was to let the cars go. He said the cars were 230 mph cars and they were only allowed 185 mph because of the rules.. Anyone against letting them go 230mph? Why?

I agree with Mark!!!!!!!! Jimmy Johnson needs to learn that bummping in corners is what cuase that one. Plus learn that he has done this twice this year there. :owquitit: :bigfight:

Let em go 230 or flatten the corners where they have to brake. Only way to make dega a worthwhile race to watch. Also, saw a LOT of empty seats, isn't that why rockingham lost it's dates ?? At least the rock had good racing.

I think NASCAR is afraid of cars taking off into the stands at the higher speeds --- much like Allison nearly did years ago.

The only way to slow the cars down without plates would be to lower the banking --- which I can't see ISC doing.

As Mark said, the only people that can stop this insanity is the fans --- i.e. don't buy tickets.

Wow, someone actually considered that a race. Apparently, you're in the minority, looking at the stands at the finish. Couldn't have been more than 15,000 people left in the stands. No way Dega should have two dates.

True, BF. It wasn't designed for that. The true problem is this............

In reply to the possibility of Charlotte running plates---

As for a published report concerning the use of restrictor plates after the track is repaved Wheeler said "I'm all for it, let's do it! It just makes better racing. You slow the cars down and you always have better racing. I don't think they're gonna do it...but...keep the rumor going! !"

IDIOT(in napoleon dynamite voice) !!! It sells more tickets to the fools who go to see crashes.

Trout - Why the slams against Talladega? Even with plate racing and horrific crashes, it is still much more exciting racing than all of the cookie cutter 1.5 milers. How many freakin 1.5 mile flat tracks do we actually need?

I gotta agree. 1.5 mile tracks are the ones where I mow the lawn and try to catch the last 50. Except for the yearly visit to ATL in person. =)

I'm in agreement with that. I guess that most of these posters should probably just shuck NASCAR and check out CART or F1. They don't race side by side there so it would be okay with them. Even the IRL is more exciting that many of those cookie cutter single file races. And they call that racing. "Put me out front and I'll win"

It's kinda like watching the 'loop' around the mall at Christmas time in fast-forward...

Don't get me wrong -- I love Talladega. However, I loved the old racing -- before the sleek, totally dependent on air cars requiring plates. Give me the old boxes and the slower speeds.

If nothing else, go back to the aero package with the wicker bills on the spoiler and the roof fin with a larger plate.

BS.... give me Vegas or any other 1.5 over Dega or Daytona any day. There is plenty of great racing on these tracks, at least it is in the hands of the drivers. They don't drive on the plate tracks they ( drivers ) are just along for the ride.

Talledega and Daytona are not racing. They are the most absurd form of crash filled entertainment there is. Placing the best drivers in the world in this situation is unfair. The France Family has, for years, sanctioned good racing on tracks of every size and configuration, but they are missing the mark when advertising these four events as a race or considering them anything beyond a comparison to the World Wrestling Federation on Wheels.

Removing restrictor plates is not the answer and apparently there are concerns with a higher catch fence. NASCAR needs to do something to keep the cars on the ground, reduce the factor of "the big ones" and keep spectators safe. Until they accomplish those things, these four events are demonstrations in high priced demolition, poor entertainment and by no stretch of the imagination should they be considered racing.

If you want to keep the current cars and the current banking but do away with the plates then add weight. If you put enough weight in the car it will slow down. Then you could go back to the full sized fuel tank as the tires would wear away quicker causing them to stop more any way.

Let me tell you, I was there on Mothers Day Weekend in 1997 when Mark Martin won the fastest 500 mile stock car race in history, and that was a whale of a race. That was one of the greatest races I have ever seen. Talladega caution free is a great race. I am glad I got to see that one in person. :beerbang:
