Marlin vs. Gordon.

DOVER, Del. - If there is a controversy brewing between Jeff Gordon and Sterling Marlin, the temperature rose Sunday at Dover International Speedway.

Gordon and Marlin got together again, with Marlin spinning off turn 4 and slamming the inside wall. Marlin's No. 40 Dodge went to the garage for repairs, while Gordon continued racing inside the top five.

Two weeks ago in The Winston at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Gordon got into Marlin in a nearly identical incident.

"We were racing hard and caught the 01 car and got held up by him as usual," Marlin said. "We got clear, and the 24 got up under us and turned us around again. That's twice in the last three races.

"It's kinda getting old. I don't know what's wrong with the 24, but we need to find out."

Marlin had a fast car this weekend, qualifying sixth and running the fastest lap in the lone Winston Cup practice Saturday morning. On Sunday, Marlin was running in the top five until the collision with Gordon.

"You've got to give and take in this league, and he has done a lot of taking," Marlin said. "It's disappointing. We had a shot to win this thing. ... The car was good. It's been good just about every week, but it seems like we can't avoid all this crazy stuff that happens out here."

Marlin came into the race ninth in the Winston Cup points standings, having finished in the top 10 in five of the last seven races.

With Jeff running for the Winston Cup championship this isn't very smart. If Sterling decides to pay him back and wrecks him once or twice more that could possibly knock him out of contention.

It does seem that Gordon has it in for that 40 car for some reason.

I don't really think Jeff "has it in for anybody". But, he was going to pass him wether he liked it or not. Sterling didn't like it and tried to block. Trying to block at Dover is suicide, at least the way Sterling did it. When Marlin came down the track at Jeff, it was clear that one of them was going to wreck. Jeff just decided it wasn't going to be the 24 that was knocked out of the race by Sterlings actions.

I think Jeff wants to be back on top so bad he is more than willing to wreck people if that is what it takes.

I agree with all the new young drivers. He is no longer top dog so he is desparte to get back on top. And he is trying so hard he is getting careless.

Nothing personal at all intended, but I find it ammusing when fans of Dale Sr or Tony Stewart bash anyone for aggressive driving.

Mr marlin needs to look at the replays of the last couple races himself. He wrecked JJ 3 times in the last 5 races, one time when no one else was around. They looked just as acidentle as jeffs incidents with him.

I must not have been watching the same race as you guys. Because the race I saw, Gordon moved up on Sterling.

Not taking anything personally... :)
I think there is a difference between being aggressive and being willing to take others out if it gets you the win.

Nothing personal intented. But Dale sr is gone and I didn't see Tony wreck anyone. Maybe Jeff is a little jealous of all the exposure that JR is getting. And wants to be back in the lime light. So Sterling and Ward just happen to be in the right place at the right time for him. :D

In my opinion these are acts of desperation by Jeff Gordon. He is so used to be the big dog in Nascar and know that his performance is fading he is doing all he can to retain a piece of the pie. He has had a lot of questionable incidents this year, and it is only due time until Nascar begins warning him on his driving.

I agree totally. Jeff is gone nuts  :)
Maybe if the Officials did give him a warning maybe then he would start driving more like a Champion instead of a rookie . Maybe rookie is not the word I'm looking for because the rookies are driving more pro than he is.

Do I sense a little jealousy among the non-Gordon fans? He does well for a few weeks and all of a sudden he is driving like a lunatic?

Yep your right. We envy everytime Jeffy poo put some one into the wall. Jeffy wants to be the next Intimidator. :bounce:

Hey...Being The Intimidator got someone a lot of fans, wins, and cash. Not a bad idea to copy the guy who's record you want, is it?

Yea boy I'm jealous <_< , jealous of the Bodines too

Jeff has not changed a bit,The youth of Nascar racing has caught up with him, with the good teams, and sponsers that they have. Jeff was alone during his glory days with the likes of Hendricks. Who in my opinion was as crooked as a dogs hind leg. ^_^

Of course he's gonna do well, he knocks whoever is in front of him into the wall. :)

That is just beatifull Nascat :p

Not that this isn't fun, but I can see this getting ugly so I am going to bail on this subject for the night. We will never see this situation the same. It is human nature to think your guy is right and the guy who is beating your guy is wrong. No sense in causing hard feelings, so...

Peace...

That is my point PB. The competition has caught up with him. He's not standing out in the croud like he use to. So he is desparte and getting careless.

Ah 4x It's not gonna get ugly. You wouldnt be a Jeff Gordon fan if you didn't defend him. Everyone has opinions and your , mine and everyones else's bont mount to a hill of beans when it comes to Nascar. :D

gordon was totally at fault here, i dont think he did it on purpose, but he definately was very aggressive, and this talk about gordon being desperate, hes 3rd in points i dont think hes deserate, maybe if he was out of the top 10 i would agree with that statement, but dont agree with it right now

My point exactly Gollum,I am sorry if I ruffled a few feathers. I truly am.

The hard feelings I was refering to wouldn't be expected from those who have been in this conversation up to this point. PBunch and Gollum in particular seem to have as good of a sense of humor as I do, but some people on this board take things like this way too personal. Just trying to not cause any hurt feelings.

One day we roast Junior this day is "Roast Jeff Gordan Day" Who knows what tomorrow brings. :D

I don't think you ruffled any feathers PBunch. It's just that sometimes I get a little gunshy with some of the younger/newer posters who get their gotchies in a bunch over stupid stuff.

But, I've decided they can not ruin my fun. Ok, I'm back. :)

I understand that.I would hang here more if that were not the case. ^_^

You have a good point but that is not what I was saying. Here a 3 or 4 years ago all you heard about was Jeff Gordon. And he like that. But now JR., Busch, Kenseth and a few others have taken a lot of air time away fron him. And he wonts to be back out in front again. Oh I dont consider myself a yound new poster. But thanks anyway. :D

This really is still a great forum when you compare it to anything else out there especially. Those of us who came from the That's Racin' forum know all too well what a really bad racing forum can be. Every post there eventually turned into...."Oh yeah? Well Jeff Gordon is gay". This place gets some immature people as anything on the Net will, but all in all I'd say the Mods and Paul do a really great job of getting rid of trouble makers quickly. to them

Here is my point,Its not like Jeff is running poor,IT IS JUST THAT HE IS NOT IN CONTROLL LIKE HE USE TO BE. 43 cars leaves a lot of room for improvement. And it has happened.

O.K. I take that as being pointed in my dirrection :( consider I wasn't mentioned altho I have been in this conversation for awhile. I think I got a great sense of humor. it runs in the family. Just ask Gollum. Hey but it's cool. Hard feelings? None here.

I agree. I to use to be on Tr. But I got tired of the SOS. If it wasn't Gordon gay it was Harvick it not hinm it was Jr. and so on. But like you said this is a great place. :bounce:
