#6-Mark Martin said Friday that he has absolutely no worries about the 2007 racing season, but did not rule out the possibility of driving a Nextel Cup car for someone other than Jack Roush next year, at least on a partial schedule. Martin, who has been with Roush since 1988, expects to field a Craftsman Truck Series Ford for the team next season, but he could also drive a part-time Cup schedule for a different team. “I’m going to kind of wait and see what materializes here, see what looks exciting, I guess,” Martin said Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway. Asked point blank if he could drive in the Cup series for someone other than Roush next season, Martin said, “There’s certain scenarios that might bring that around. I’m interested in a limited schedule, and obviously I’d love to do that with Jack, but that would kind of mess up the #6 car. I wish they didn’t have a limitation on teams.” The #6 car, of course, is the Roush Racing Ford Fusion that Martin will be vacating after the 2006 season. Martin and Roush have enjoyed phenomenal success together, with the driver earning all 35 of his Cup victories behind the wheel of Roush Fords. He has finished second in Cup points four times. Martin is an enviable position, as he has enjoyed great success with Roush’s trucks this season, winning four races in just eight starts, including Wednesday night’s tilt at Bristol Motor Speedway. “That truck’s an awful lot of fun,” Martin said Friday. But the shortage of talent in the Cup series and a wave of start-up teams makes him highly sought after. “I’m not worried about it,” Martin said of next season. “I really got a Chase to try to make, and once we do that I’ve got to focus … I’ve got it the best in the world. I have nothing to worry about in 2007. Nothing.”(Speed Channel)(8-26-2006)

I don't care where Mark drives, I'm just not ready for him to quit. Easily one of the best to ever drive in any NASCAR series. I'll enjoy watching him smoke the field in the Truck series next year. :)

I agree Bobby. Still can't believe that the 6 will be driven by Kleuver next year. He's definitely not ready now & may never be. Only time will tell, I suppose.

it doesn't matter who drives the #6 next year as long as it's not mark. give me a break, what happened to his retirement from cup? how about giving your fans the same respect and loyalty that we've (yes, i'm a martin fan (for now)) given him?

go for the gold mark! change those shades to $$$ so you fit in with the rest.

I agee, he said he was going to be done racing in cup full time after last year, should of kept his word. and not turned in to a John Kerry flip-floping. ;)

He said with tears in his eyes that 2005 was going be his last year in cup. Then said ok, well 2006 Might be my last year.

If Ken Schrader said 2007 was going to be my last year, then i would hold him to that, and would lose respect if he came back in 08 full time.

For the last time, he was gonna retire last year from cup but jack asked him to race one more year because he had nobody ready to race the #6 yet.

For the last time? What is that supposed to mean? You won't mention it again?

Anyway, that's no excuse. What if someone asks him again? And again? Fact is like Lapy said.

I really think that Mark is a very nice guy that tries to do the right thing, but I think he has blown this retirement deal. I have real doubts that he has settled with the idea of retireing from the Cup series. I don't think that it was right for Jack to come back wanting him to drive another year. I kind of lost some respect for Mark and hope that things get settled.

Last week he said on tv that he wouldn't be in the 6 car next year due to the fact that he only wanted a partial cup (12 races) schedule. According to him, he will be driving the CTS full time next season & if a partial schedule cup ride presented itself, he may do that, too. Also, when he initially said he was retiring, if anyone recalls, he said he was retiring from running cup "full time" because the schedule had gotten too long & he didn't have enough time w/family,etc. NEVER did he say, "I'm not driving in the cup series again". He only said he was retiring from full time duty.

Bump! I am sure most of us here don't need to even know of the exestince of that list! BS is the very last person most of us care anything at all about what she does or does not do.
Betsy

Please tell me you didn't give her a free hit on her site just to try & make a lame comparison between her & Martin.

Would you like me to give equal time to Mark and post his Cup appearances?

Actually I'm a big fan of both. :D

Mark Bashers Can Officially Rest.

FONTANA, Calif. -- Mark Martin on Friday confirmed a previous NASCAR.COM report filed last weekend that he will not drive the No. 6 Roush Racing Ford in 2007.

"I'm not worried about next year, but I will tell you this: there never has been -- ever -- a consideration for me to drive the 6 car in 2007," Martin said.

Martin's primary focus currently is performing well enough in the Sony HD 500 at California Speedway to stay ahead of Kasey Kahne in the Nextel Cup Series point standings.

With two races remaining before the Chase cutoff, Martin leads Kahne by 90 points.

"Everybody's in this frenzy about what I'm going to do in 2007 -- it's just not important right now," Martin said. "What's here in front of me is what's important to me. I've tried to help these guys and keep the ship on track, and if we don't produce then so be it.

"But it hasn't been for lack of effort. I've been as dedicated this year as I have any year in my racing career, and I'm proud of that because I didn't know if I was going to be able to do it in February. I really didn't know.

"But once we got to it, it's uncontrollable. It's all about the performance of the racecar. I guess I'm proud of that."

Martin went on to reiterate the well-chronicled sentiment that he had no desire to compete in the Cup Series this year, but because team owner Jack Roush and sponsor AAA needed him, he chose to stick it out for another season.

In hindsight, he's quite pleased with the decision.

"I know that my time is limited, and I'm at peace," he said. "I wasn't going to be in the 6 car in '06 and Jack and the team really needed me, and AAA wanted me to come back and do this thing and I certainly am glad that I did it. It's been a great and rewarding year.

"I've never once this year thought or considered driving it again in '07. I've driven it 19 years. That's enough for the 6 car and me."

Why would you say that? Is this any different from other times? Now he means it? What has changed?

Exactly... i'll believe it when i see it in Feb. when and if he isn't in the 6 for Daytona.

It really is hilarious that his running this year bothers some of you so much. Oh yeah, he's the reason the 9 won't make the chase. HAHAHAHAHA.

Nothing has been determined yet and he isn't the reason the 9 will or won't make the Chase. That is in the hands of the 9 driver and his team. I could care less what Mark actually does, it all comes down to the principle of the issue. I'm not going to argue the issue any more because there really is not point in it is there?!

Are we that shallow that we feel the need to trash fellow posters and drivers?
I THINK NOT!
