RICHMOND, Va. - Matt Borland is a hot commodity in the garage right now.
With his engineering and leadership skills, several organizations have expressed interest in Borland, including Bill Davis Racing and Robert Yates Racing. BDR's Tommy Baldwin said he's left messages for Borland, who familiarized himself with the Toyota systems at Michael Waltrip Racing before parting ways last Wednesday.
Robert Yates admits that his organization is "very thin right now" in its engineering layers and could someone with Borland's talents.
"He's a great guy," Yates said. "He's very well respected and one of the best engineers to come down the pike in a long time. We certainly have a plan for what we need to do in the future and Matt would be a strong addition."
One source close to the situation said not to be surprised if Borland ends up at Hendrick Motorsports, citing the engineer's close friendship with Rex Stump, the HMS chassis guru.
