Just heard on sirius/XM that Matt is going to get a new number!!!! announcement coming at the Hall of fame in the near future
 
Bucky, Bucky, Bucky. You need to be more of a badger about reading what has already been posted. ;)
 
I heard Mike Joy and DW yammering about it and they hinted it was a new "style" of the number 17. I suppose like Earnhardt Jr's 8 or the way Evernham used the number 9.

As was suggested in the random thread, it's probably a publicity stunt to coincide with the all star race and to get DW blaring.
 
I read/heard that the announcement is to come on Monday about this number thing. Last week was simply the announcement of the announcement. This kind of publicity stunt looks like it was pulled from the Bruton Smith PR manual.

"They did what they wanted to do," Kenseth said Friday from Darlington, S.C. "They created a big buzz. That's for sure." Kenseth, a Cambridge, Wis., native who won the 2003 Cup title, said he read the news release like everyone else. Just more carefully than most. "Everybody's kind of worked up about it," he said. "I just read the release at the same time everybody else did, and I didn't read anything in there that said we were changing our car number." An explanation of the "new number" and an announcement of a "new multi-year partner" -- notice it didn't say anything about a full-time primary sponsor -- are scheduled for Monday morning at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C.(Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)(5-12-2012)

Yeah , we kinda got sucked in on Kurt's big sponsor announcement last week too. A lot of us thought that they had found an actual sponsor . I think this will be a let down too. Kinda makes you not trust those pr guys.

It was never meant to be one thread to replace all others. I simply created a NASCAR related thread to throw in some miscellaneous items. Some of those items turn out to be stories later on and get throw into threads like the one you created.

It's a great thread. Some things aren't worth an entire thread of it's own so it's cool to have a place to put the minor things like paint schemes and spotter changes.
 
New number announcement today.

Number of people w/ Fifth Third Bank pins here for news conference is good indication of Kenseth sponsor.
 
That is the sponsor however. There is no number change. It was simply a play on words. :rolleyes:

The whole drama in Kenseth's number changing much ado about nothing - no change including for All-Star Race.

Matt Kenneth's Cup team to be sponsored by Fifth Third Bank for 4 races beginning this season.

Will be on All Star Race car.

Matt Kenseth said they looked at incorporating 53 into paint scheme for races, but number on his car will remain 17.

The press release said: "... An announcement regarding the new number on Matt Kenseth’s Sprint Cup Ford Fusion." Creative wording.

I'm very Happy to see the 17 still on the car and happy to see Kenseth pick up a new sponsor.

Media/Sponsor Games leading up to The Allstar race naaaaaa, never happens!

From a racing standpoint, this makes perfect sense. If you're the Fifth car to be third, you're the First to be Seventh. 17

Okay , the next time Bucky comes running in here ,all out of breath ,waving a press release.. we have to tell him to calm down and wait for the announcement.
