Matt Kenseth?

Fastest in practice this morning.

Seems a couple of surprises on the chart including Mayfield as the second fastest.

Hear tell it is hot, humid, and sunny in Darlington today. So how will the weather affect qualifying which gets underway at 3:00? Could be by the end of the session the track might cool , but it might not be a whole lot.

Matt has drawn the #2 qualifying position which on the surface is not a good thing. The only thing that team has not done this year (good things that is) is grab a pole. I'm sure they would like to.

I'd rather see Matt get the win, instead of a pole. Pole means nothing more than picking your pit stall first & hopefully leading the 1st lap for the bonus points.

Ya don't think Matt and the team would like a shot at winning about a quarter million bucks come February?

I'm sure as always they are concentrating on winning races. But for most of the season the team has acknowledged that they need to improve their qualifying.

Hard to pass at Darlington, and as always trouble lurks in the pack.

I think the WC Champion gets an automatic bid to the shootout?

That should be an interesting bit of trivia, who was the last champion (if there was one) that never won a pole?

Dale Jarrett in 1999.

He made the Bud Shootout for 2000 by winning the qualifying race held prior to the Shootout. Yhey no longer have that race.

DJ won the Shootout in 2000 starting in last place on the field of 15 cars.

DJ and team have been having some better finishes of late. Might just be getting that worm to turn over.

Not very quick this morning, see what they can come up for a race setup.

12 drivers through so far and Matt is on top.

Just a bit slower than practice, maybe .02 seconds.

Mark Martin picked up a bunch from practtice and sits second so far.

followed by:

Benson
Skinner
Harvick
Stewart
Elliott
K. Wallace
J. Burton
Raines
Green
Schrader
H. Sadler

Didn't last....

Ryan, JJ, TL, E. Sadler, B. Labonte all ahead of Matt now.

The track really seems to be cooling off.

7 of the top 10 right now have been the last 9 to qualify.

Could be.......

Don't have TV here, the radio has not mentioned the track temp lately.

Yeah Im at work, Im going by the qualifying page on Jayski.

From what I'm getting in interviews with the drivers it seems teams are adjusting to the track.

Some are going the right way and some not. The drivers say the track is still hot and slick.

Ricky Craven was supposed to go out 31st, but four other cars have instead. Anyone know why?

Nope, haven't heard.

Spencer just hit the wall pretty good. Checking for debris

Craven currently 8th............musta been a delay on the posting.

Spencer, 8th in practice, says he will have to go to back up...........

I wish I could remember where I saw this. I checked at Jayski & didn't see anything mentioning that the WC Champ gets an auto bid for the Shootout.
