Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series driver Matt Tifft is out indefinitely after doctors found a brain tumor while treating him for a disk condition in his back.

Tifft, 20, will have surgery for what the team described as a slow-growing, low-grade glioma in the brain. He will need to spend time in rehabilitation before being cleared to race.

-snip-

David Ragan will replace Tifft in the JGR No. 18 Xfinity Series car this weekend at Daytona.

Wow, what a shame. Only 20 years old. :( Hope he beats it and gets back in the car soon.

That's terrible. Things like this remind you to appreciate every day.

Wow. Poor kid. My cousin was a professional boxer and had to retire due to a brain tumor. Good news is she had successful surgery and has not suffered any repercussions.
I hope this kid has a positive prognosis.

Wow , that is really awful, wishing him the best , lucky for him it sounds like they caught it in the early stages.

Definitely. Hope he gets through alright. That disc issue may have saved his life.

Wishing for good luck for the young man. I saw a photo, and he looks about 14... oh, I guess that is my problem, getting old I am.

Good point, Dun, about the disc issue having a silver lining!

Was his back disc injury driving related or biological related to the tumor? Get well soon. Maybe he can return for Phoenix.

The press release stated the disc and the tumor are unrelated, so it was most likely an injury of some kind.

I can't imagine what he can be feeling today. Send some positive thought's this young man's way today. It can't hurt.
