Matts lucky he won sunday the rookie was on his butt.

Lucky? What about good? 259 lap lead. Pretty much dominated the race IMO.

He's just lucky to be from the same fine state that I am from. Heck I even bowled in a tournament in his hometown this past saturday.

You can say that again. Another 10 ft. and Matt would have finished 2nd. But there was no 10ft so Matt won it.

Here we go again. Is anyone ever going to give him the credit he deserves. He won the championship and only won one race. People say he shouldnt have won it. Lets not forget the year before he lead the series in wins. And oh if im not mistaken he started that year off with a win at the Rock. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Last week it was the JR. conspiracy and now matt was lucky, hmmmm I wonder what vegas will bring

matt and kahne should have been 1 lap down after being caught on pit road during a caution anyway!

taken from speed channel article:
Controversy erupted during pit stops under green, with leader Kenseth and second-place Kahne pitting under green, yielding the lead to third-place Jamie McMurray. On the same lap, Robby Gordon got turned into the wall on the back stretch, bringing out caution and, apparently, catching Kenseth and Kahne a lap down in the pits.

However, under procedures instituted last year freezing the running order at the time of the caution alert, NASCAR had also to consider that Kenseth and Kahne were pitting past the finish line, hence (according to NASCAR) keeping the on the same lap as the leader at the time the field was locked.

I know this horse had been beaten to death but I'd just like to point out that the point system rules didn't change for the favour of the guy who wins the most races.

Theoretically, a guy can win 26 races and still not win the championship. Unless my memory is shot, I thought the point race came down to the 2nd fom last race.

If the points race is not exciting, nascar may want to consider that the announcers are constantly yapping about the worst finish in a certain number races and this or that guy has to win this many races to be the champ. Then, if a guy has to finish say, 20th to stay ahead in the points and he finishes 15 they make it look like he was sandbagging. Maybe he was - maybe he wasn't.

To the fan424--- when kenseth and kahne were pitting that gave the lead to mcmurray, during which time the 17 and the 9 had crossed the start/finish line (but crossed in the pits) on the same lap as the leader---then the caution flew, thus freezing the field, in which they remained on the same lap.

12/17..........That's the way it was explained and from what I saw that's the way it happened. Kenseth and Kahn retained their 1, 2 positions fair and square. Now if they had lingered in the pits and made major changes like replacing a shock or rearend gear they probably would have lost those positions. :)

But Matt is one lucky sucker!! :D How many flats did he get last season in turn four and was just at the right position to hit pit road?

Matt has talent, no question, and that talent led him to the championship last year. But sometimes he does get lucky with his tire issues.

I will admit that he is lucky to a certain point. But (and I am biased) he and his team put themselves in great position week in and week out to win races.

I agree, very well said.

I fail to see how getting a flat tire is considered "good luck", no matter which turn it's in.

It sure didn't bring Bill Elliot any good furtune at Homestead and before anyone says everybody gets them...well, I guess it all equals out in the end then.

their all cheaters last week jr had a bigger plate, this week jack in the box paid nascar to let matt stay on the lead lap, i'm with you steve wonder who will be the biggest cheater at Vegas

One happy driver, 42 dissapointed...that's a lot of unhappy fans grasping at whatever.

Jeez, people...if DEJr cheated, he would've been caught and Kenseth simply won the race. The rule applies to everyone equally.

Matt is a lucky guy. But that is what a lot of racing is. The 9 was passing Matt but just ran out of track and Matt won. Plain and simple. Samething happen at Atlanta when Harvick won . Gordon was passing but Harvick won.

I don't think that the "luck" was in the fact that his tire went flat. The luck factored in as to where he was on the track when the flat tire occured. And, it happened more than once with Kenseth last year.

I'll bet if you could go back and look at past seasons you would find that the champion of that year had alot of luck go his way. IMHO, that a championship couldn't be won without alot of luck. B)

Matt and Khane should have been at the tail end of the lead lap after that caution plus he ran the stop sign at the end of pit row............

All of our debate means nothing. Nascar has spoken So it on to Vagas.

Actually to be quite honest when the caution flew Kenseth and Kahne were timed across the line in 7th and 8th respectively. So there in when the first 6 cars pitted they assumed first and second again.

:D

All this debate about who should have been in what position at whatever instant a caution on the track came about because of the rule implimented by NASCAR last year. We all sat holding our breath as DJ sat dead in the water in the middle of the track as the cars raced back the the caution flag (due to DJ's incident). And we all saw the the wisdom of making that rule change. But everyone should have known there would be situations occur just like last weekend...........I did anyway. NASCAR said they would review all available information and make a determination as quickly as possible.......that determination would be final. I think they did that. There are quirks and sometimes flaws in every rule (I would call Sunday's incident a quirk........not a flaw). Matt and Kasey did it exactly right. Matt and Kasey were also very lucky the way things worked out (had they pitted one lap sooner they would have been a lap down). And, most importantly, NASCAR did it right too......good rule and good call.

Now lets move on the Vegas..........goooooooo Jr!!! :D

So I guess there is no way for a car to be on the tail end of the lead lap again and I guess now you can make up laps during a caution, great ideas NEXCAR.........

No one has mentioned Matt's 2 sub 13 second pit stops. That may have had something with getting him out front and keeping him there. It sure beats Rusty's 17.x second stop.
