First, I like Max, but what the hell is his deal with RCR? Why the hell would two kids whose Grandfather runs the show and whose Dad works for Grandpa need a mentor? I would think that Austin would want to consult with somebody like Newman who had actually won a Cup race, and although Gaughn isn't exactly a world beater, he surely knows more than Max when it comes to NNS. Am I alone in thinking that this whole deal is odd?

I'm pretty sure that's strictly for road courses.

He proclaims that he advises the kids on nutrition, fitness, and serves as a source of emotional support. All of this on Richard Childress's team? Did Sr. have one of these dudes?

They hired Max as emotional support for the Dillons??????

I'm guessing that part of the relationship developed afterwards. Max has always been into fitness so it makes sense. But he first signed on with them in 2012 and worked with Austin a lot when he was making his Nationwide road course debut at Road America.

Didn't he also work with TY? He seems like a genuine nice guy.
His interviews are comical with the accent and how emotional he gets while banging out thought after thought with that heavy accent. All the odd faces he makes also gets me smiling. It could be fun having him in a fulltime NW car if he was competitive.

Don't get me wrong, I think Max is a great guy, but I can't think of two NASCAR up and comers more supported in every way than the Austin bros. The whole deal just seems like an odd match to me. Thinking that Richard just likes the dude, and wants to pay him for something.

Lets just hope we don't end up with a couple of crying cowboys. ;)
