Apparently Brian France is now talking of changes to the Chase and also the participation of the Cup drivers in the Nationwide Series.

NASCAR is taking a look at the format of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship format, with chairman Brian France wanting to create more "big-impact moments." The Chase was one of several topics France covered Friday during a question-and-answer session. Also under consideration is changes to the second-tier Nationwide Series that could affect the participation of Cup drivers.

Big-impact moments - What the heck does that mean?

In reading the story on ESPN, it sounds like they're going to cook up some kind of elimination-style format. To what extent, no one knows. France has floated the trial balloon out there to see what people will say about something like that.

Elimination? I could go for that. Eliminate one each week and let 3 battle for it in the last race.

If some people had their way they would just go ahead and run a figure 8 track and get it over with. They could have all the "big-impact moments" they want then, and it seems like a natural progression from plate "racing".

Ever since this chase garbage the points system sounds more and more like my wife and living room furniture....never satisfied so she keeps moving it all over the damn place so I have to relearn everything.

Hes floating something, but I wouldn't call it a balloon.

"Big impact points"

This is a reference to the stick and ball sports. Football has it's Superbowl, Hockey, Basketball have their Championship series. The recent NBA finals has 28.2 million people watch Game 7.

The NFL, NHL, and the NBA championships were all UP in viewership and attendance this season. NASCAR's Superbowl, the Daytona 500, had ratings fall 16 percent with only 13.294 million tuning in.

King Brian wants a championship that will bring the viewers.

One of the things that could happen in the Chase is some rearranging of tracks on the schedule and moving some different ones into the Chase.

Yes get rid of Louden, Dover and Kansas and insert Richmond, either road course, and Iowa.

If they want to start eliminating anything, how about starting with the Chase itself? Don't the points take care of the elimination of teams already? Seriously, if you start to pull teams out of the Chase because they have the lowest finish for a given week, NASCAR fans will go crazy. IMO it was bad enough that the Chase was ever created to begin with. That kind of a change would be yet another step in the wrong direction. What happens when one driver decides to retaliate against one of those Chase drivers and decides that the Chase is a good time to take him out? Absolutely the wrong change to make. If they want to do something right, admit the Chase was a foolish idea to begin with and eliminate IT.
