**Ganassi hires McMurray to drive third car**

RICHMOND, Va. - ChevronTexaco has signed a multi-year contract with Chip Ganassi Racing, and has signed driver Jamie McMurray to drive the Havoline Dodge in the 2003 season, the team announced Saturday at Richmond International Raceway.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McMurray has enjoyed a banner weekend at RIR. He finished a career-best second Friday night in the Funai 250. Now this.

"This is the right move for me, and I am pleased to be part Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates," McMurray said. "Chip's use of new technology has been introduced into every aspect of his NASCAR Winston Cup Racing teams.

"I am especially proud to drive the Havoline car. Havoline has been an excellent sponsor in NASCAR for many years, and I am very humbled to be driving for them."

THIS KID IS GONNA GO SOMEWHERE IN 2003!!
Good choice Chip!!

This kid is to inexperienced, should stay another year in Busch before taking this step.

Yeah, everybody said that about Jimmie Johnson and now look at him... Championship Contender.

I think not Mr Ganassi, but time will tell.

No sh!t!!! LOL!!

Will he be driving the #28?

If so, wow. Big shoes to fill. Don't know enough about the kid to know if it's a good move or not, but Paul seems to like him well enough. :)

Here's my response:

MCMURRAY???????????????

I know the kid's got a lot of talents, but is it really a good idea to have a rookie in a rookie team? Are they trying for another Jimmie Johnson story here or something?

And just one more thing,

MCMURRAY???????????????

I'm sorry, I just have to say one last thing, especially after all the talk about Ganassi looking for experience.

MCMURRAY???????????????

maybe chip wanted a young driver, and plans on him being the future of the organization

If that's what Ganassi wants, I hope it works out for him. He sure did surprise a lot of fans, that's for sure.

Yeah, all of us own tons of CART, IRL and NASCAR cars...we know better than him. ;)

Of course, Paul. :p

Just commented on that b/c it is amusing how none of the rumors came any where near that announcement.

I have like Jamie Mac since he stepped into the 41 truck a few years back. Seems like ages ago but I think it was the 99 or 2000 season. He has done pretty well in the BGN Series and I think Chip made a good choice. The only thing I dont like about it is that I was hoping that would be Bobby Hamilton's ride but Oh Well.

I hope it turns out to be great for he and Chip!

To answer your question on the #28...No that will not be the number. It will most likley be 42; to keep in sequence of his other car NUMBERS....#40, #41, ...42.

I don't get it either. I thought Chip would take Andretti since he also fields those pointy cars. I can't help but think that Jamie needs another year of experience under his belt before moving on. I don't think he's a bad driver, just not ready yet.
