Colin McRae has fuelled speculation about his World Rally Championship future by saying Ford must make him an offer soon for 2003 if it is to keep him at the team beyond the end of the season.
McRae comes to the end of his current contract with Ford at the end of the year but the 1995 world champ says Ford has yet to begin negotiations the keep him on.
"I don't want to turn down good offers while hanging on and hoping that Ford is going to come up with something," McRae told Motorsport News. "The problem is at the moment there's no commitment from Ford, that's for sure. Until that happens, I don't know. If a good offer comes along then obviously it would be seriously considered.
"It would be shame to leave the team, but if they can’t come up with anything solid soon, then that may be the case."
McRae is currently being linked with Rallye Deutschland winners Citroen, but he has always insisted that whoever he signs for next year, the car must be capable of taking on and beating current WRC pacesetters Peugeot.
"My primary reason for joining a new team is to ensure I had the car and package most likely to bring me another world title," said McRae. "I don't have too many more years to mount serious challenges in the world championship and I have to make sure I have a car capable of taking on the Peugeots."
