Per Nascar.com, Yates has released Michael McSwain and he has been hired to be Bobby LaBonte's new crew chief by Joe Gibbs Racing.

When does this go into effect? I don't see why they don't just keep Makar where he is.

No kidding look what happened when Jarrets chief went to the front office.:D

I was thinking the same thing pbunch!

I love the Bobby/Jimmy duo, but I guess it's just getting a little stale. Here's hoping that Fatback and Bobby create the perfect chemestry next season!

:beerchug:

I think Bobby is looking for a change,But I don't think it would be where he is if it weren't for the contract he has.;)

You mean Gibbs would've fired him? :( He'll be up at the top again next year.

OH NO!Not at all,I think Bobby was looking real hard at a deal which would have included his brother,But I am sure he has one year left on his contract with Gibbs, and was man enough to honor that. ;)

Gotcha! I think his deal actually might go through 2004. That is actually good for me since I have contributed greatly to the Labonte children's college funds w/ my Interstate Batteries #18 gear  Need to get a couple more seasons out of it before it's outdated!

I hear you HH,i got a $hit load of Valvoline stuff. And you know the reason for that. :p

BTW, it was previously announced that Jimmy Makar was moving up to team manager.

I hope Bobby has great chemistry with Fatback and does VERY well next season.

I hope Bobby and Fatback can work well together. I think Fatback can help improve on Labonte's last couple of bad seasons.

I think it's a smarter move than Stoddard to Ward Burton's team.

Let's see how Fatback and Bobby Labonte gel, they might be able to get that team turned around for next season. I wonder what will happen to the #28 with this shake-up, like they needed anything else to happen.

Apparently this Sunday, Fatack will be with Bobby and someone else will be in his place with Rudd. At least that is what I heard on the news this a.m.

Makar will continue as Crew Chief for Bobby. Mike will be around to get familiar with the operation and begin honing the communications with Bobby for next year.

At least that is the arrangement for now. :)

Bobby will retire with JGR. IB loves him because of the Texas connection. This has year has been his only reall ybad yr. Last year wasn't that bad considering he finished sixth. '99 and '00 were just incredible. Tough to replicate yrs like that. I think Jimmy's moving to team manager was his decision as much as it was Bobby's and Joe's. I'm optimistic about Fatback becuase Joe Gibbs' calling card is people management. He puts the right people in the right places.

For what it's worth.

McSwain says there is absolutely no truth to the stories of "performance issues" with Elliott Sadler. Robert Yates confirms that Mike was largely (90% in Robert's words) responsible for his hiring of Sadler. Elliott and Mike were seen together at Richmond and were on demonstrably friendly terms. He also figures that one of the teams he will be having to contend with for wins is the #38. He boldly predicted a very good future for Elliott.

McSwains move, again according to Mike, was prompted in total by the offer of Joe Gibbs Racing. Until that point, which was less than a month ago, he had all intentions of staying at RYR. At JFR invitation he interviewed for the job and was impressed by the operation and obviously by the offer.

The biggest difference he noted between the two operations (RYR and JGR) is that JGR is absolutely one team with two cars, two CC's and two drivers.

He is not particularly fond of the nickname "Fatback" but has had it since high school and grown accustomed to it. His Mom doesn't like it at all.

I will call him anything he wants if he gets my driver back up front next year!
