For whatever it's worth the media has picked Johnson as the favorite for the 2012 Cup title.

Jimmie Johnson has been tabbed to win the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title, according to a poll of media conducted by the sanctioning body.

And Johnson, who won five consecutive titles between 2006-10, is OK with that.

“I walk in [this year] with the same confidence I had after I won the championship,” Johnson said Thursday during NASCAR Media Day activities at Daytona International Speedway. “And that confidence is built on what takes place in the shop and what goes on over the offseason.”

Johnson, driver of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Chevrolet, finished sixth in points last season – his lowest finish in a career that began in 2002.

Never worse than sixth. Unbelievable stat IMO. I wish I could like this guy but I've never been a fan. Anyhow the picks worked out like this.....

Johnson
Edwards
Stewart
Jeff Gordon
Kevin Harvick
Kyle Busch
Brad Keselowski
Kasey Kahne
Denny Hamlin
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Matt Kenseth
Greg Biffle

Newman and Kurt Busch are out and Biff & Kahne are in for 2012.

From here.

I agree with you on AJ. I think he'll make the Chase this year along with a win or two. Damn, I should have used that for the BOLD prediction.

You still have time. I think Kurt will get in on 1 or 2 wins. I can't see him being out of the top 20. He sure is excited and always mentions his Hendrick equipment.

Someone's already picked AJ to get into the Chase so I'm staying away from the prediction. As far as Kurt goes, yes, listening to him yesterday you could hear the excitement in his voice. I heard the same thing as last year's media day with Denny Hamlin and look where that went. Sure attitude goes a long way sometime but man, that whole team from the driver on down has to have that same attitude. Teamwork will be key to his success. Having the equipment is not the only key to victory. It'll be fun to watch his ride this year. I'm not a fan of his but it will be fun none the less. Good luck to him.

This is Kurts chance to just go for wins, and it's Finches only chance to make it big with a top driver. Wouldn't it be something if they make the chase, then Kurt partners with Finch and becomes a new HMS satelite team? OR, he moves to SHR?

You mean yet another HMS satellite team, right? I'd venture to guess that the ties to SHR are far to strong to be dethroned by Finch. Pretty soon, whatever Hendrick doesn't own he'll be sponsoring anyhow the way it's going. As far as Kurt moving to SHR? Wow, I don't know about that.

Huh? Finch is already an HMS satellite team. Why would it be a case of dethroning SHR? With the support Rick is showing Finch and Kurt right now, I don't see anything standing in the way if that's how they want to go.

Misunderstood I guess, I thought you meant 'THE' satellite team, therefore dethroning SHR.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwww. That's one hell of an angle.

I'm sure it's crossed Ricks mind that Kurt may know some good things about the Penske cars. Since Addington went to SHR, Rick needs to keep up with the Jonses.
