Media unfair to Stewart

Whats the deal. They did a "tough luck" interview with Jeff Gordon when he parked his car the first time and they did one with Rusty at the end of the race. Why just ignore Stewart, he was running in third with just 4 or 5 laps to go, great 397 laps and he just gets ignored! Thats not right!

Kel

NO!!!! I think ignoring him for a bit is the best thing they can do. I'll bet you anything he may have a personal escort named Gibbs tonight. LOL

I dont think they should treat him any different than any of the other drivers. If they wanna talk tough luck, his was every much as tough as Rusty's.

Kel

He finished 30th, why would they interview the 30th place driver?

Then, according to your logic, they would then need to interview every driver that finishes 30th from here on in.

So should they ignore him when he wins?? I think that would be fair.

Kel

I don't think putting a mic in his face tonight would have been a good idea.

Most of the time, maybe all of the time, the TV guys will accept any drivers request not to be interviewed. It is actually in the best interest of both parties.

If a driver doesn't wish to speak, that should be his option, as it is any other athlete's (or celebrity of any type for that matter)

Aside from that there is a time issue, you are not gonna interview a driver off the track during the last three laps of a race. After the race TNT and NBC leave very little time to interview anybody.

What would Tony say anyway?? We were great , we broke. We already knew that.

Yeah, I don't think tonights post race interview would have been one for the kiddies:rolleyes:

I don't think even Joe wanted to approach Tony! He was pissed that trany broke

I totally agree with HardScrabble. I would venture to geuss one of the pit reporters asked Tony if he wanted to do an interview and he more then likely said no.

I didn't even hear interviews from green who placed 3rd or Jr. who placed 4th. maybe they declined also?

Nope, they were already over on time.

Before the Stewart fans here get upset with me I happen to think that Tony is a VERY good driver. What bothers me about him is that he is hypocritical when it comes to the Media. Before the Brickyard and the second MIS race Tony was all over the media at the track, sitting in the booth, the "war wagon" , popping in on other drivers interviews just having a good ole time with his buddies that carry mics. But heaven forbid he should finish outside the top 5! Then the message is "stay away Tony had a bad day"
Before the season Tony stated that he felt it was wisest just to "decline comment" when approached by the media but apparently that meant only if everything did not go his way. I understand that he wants to win, and win every race but at this level of competition I dont think that is realistic and I dont think he is practicing any anger management techniques that may have been offered up since he "sought help"

Another thing that bothered me is Mike Joy's comment during "trackside" that "Some "so-called" fan has alleged that Tony shoved her in the garage area" Does Mike think that this woman could not really be a fan of the sport because she got angry enough about getting shoved to press charges.

The media can coddle the drivers all they want but I WANT to know what kind of people they are, not just how they race because I choose my favorites from more than just the "career wins" column. I want to see that Tony is making an effort to improve his attitude because I admire his track performance and would like to be able to support him without feeling like I had to defend his actions.

This is just my opinion, I dont post it looking for sympathisers or critique, I post it because that is exactly how I feel.

"According to men familiar with the situation, the incident began when Stewart was walking back to his hauler. With less than three feet of space between the rigs in the garage area, Stewart reached the side door to his rig and pushed aside a woman to open the door and climb into his dressing room. The woman, so far unnamed, then went to the back of the truck and awaited Stewart. When he appeared, after changing, she told him, 'You owe me an apology.' Stewart, somewhat taken aback, said, 'OK, I'm sorry.' Then Stewart, as he walked away, grumbled to his crew about race fans in the garage, remarks that apparently sparked the official complaint"

If that is what happened she will get endless heat from real NASCAR fans. IMO from this report I'd gather that she is a bitch.

I am a real NASCAR fan, and had I been shoved instead of asked to move I think I would have expected an apology as well. Those that know me well will tell you I am not a bitch either. I think to press charges is a bit much but we dont know the whole story and probably never will.

Being "shoved" is one thing and being pushed aside is another.

First comment: the above refenced account of the happenings is from one of Mike Mulhern's "sources". Discount factor 70%

Second comment: No clue who this lady is, her motives, or anything else about her.

Third comment: Joe Gibbs abbreviated version:

"The week after the Bristol race we became aware that there was an upset fan. At that point I went and talked to everyone who was with Tony from the time he was at the car after the race until he got to the hauler and got out of the hauler. We did have somebody assigned to be with him. Basically they all told me they saw nothing out of the ordinary. At that point I dropped it and figured that was probably the end of it.

"nothing out of the ordinary" would preclude an incident as described my Mulhern. Unless of course it is normal for a spectator to wait and demand an apology for a shove. Might some be some discount factor to Gibbs statement as well, call it 40%.

Fourth comment: I would expect some type of result from from this investigation very soon. Until then, no further comment on journalist speculation from me.
