Or at least his final resting place. It seems kind of unusual for someone who fought in the Revolutionary War to have lived as long as he did.

As it turns out, he was born in Ireland and ended up here and fighting in the Revolutionary War. Reportedly he was somewhat famous, but I'm not sure how you could verify that.

I found out my sister-in-law has done a lot of research into our family history. It started out as an argument with her husband, my oldest brother. So far she has traced back to 1560 on the Davidson (Dad's)side and 1690 on the McCune (Mom's) side.

Some interesting tidbits, to me anyway, besides having an allegedly famous grandfather who fought in the Revolutionary war is that the Davidson's, formerly spelled Davisson, were once slaves to a guy named Oliver Cromwell. When they were released they were basically banished to the relatively new Massachusetts Colony. From there they scattered to Maine and various parts of Massachusetts and eventually to West Virginia which is where my people came from. I already knew that a distant cousin of mine is the mayor of Buckhannon, WVA, which is where my dad grew up mostly and where we visited my grandma when I was little. She lives in Tennessee, so I can't just go over and check out the info she has, including a ton of pictures. But, she gave me a few web sites where she has a lot of this stuff posted.

I've thought about getting the Davidson family crest tattooed on my arm for a long time. I've gone back and forth, but this new info has me really pumped to get it done if there is any room for it in my tax return. "Sapienter Si Sincere" translates to "Wisely If Sincerely".

Very cool. I talked to my sister-in-law the other day and she has made copies of pretty much everything she has. Once she has copies of everything she said she is going to ship me all of the copies. She said as the youngest of the nine siblings and the one with the greatest interest in this stuff, she thinks I should be the one to carry on the information to anybody who wants it. I kind of hope some of my nieces and nephews and other family members develop an interest.
