So, this is probably a stupid question, but what's the best way to meet your favorite driver, without getting arrested for stalking? I brought a diecast car of Jimmie Johnson's #48 and I would like for him to sign it. So far the only solution I've come up with is buy a pit pass to the next race in Charlotte and get him to sign it there.

Thoughts?

I live in Phoenix. When NASCAR comes to town, it seems every big name driver makes an appearance at some store, car dealership, or (etc.) in town. It's just up to me to look up where my favorite driver will be scheduled to appear.

About three years ago, Tony Stewart was the grand marshall for our Fiesta Bowl parade. My family and I made up some posters to display on the parade route. Mine read, "Smoke 'Em at Daytona, Tony!". The parade was in January. Well, when Tony's car approached, we waved our posters, and the guys walking alongside his car gestured to us to give them our posters for Tony to sign. He signed all three of our posters. They hang in my garage now. Pretty cool.

Even if you buy a pit pass, you will still find it hard to get the autograph, but its worth a shot. If you do decide to give that a try, get there as early as you can and try to get a garage pass. That is where you will find the drivers/owners and sponsors easier.

Some drivers you can mail them to them thru their PR or fan clubs and they will sign them and send them back as long as you pay the postage. Not sure about Jimmy but a friend of mine did that with Jr.

Well...I kinda want to meet Johnson too, kinda the point of getting the autograph. ;)

go to infineon. Infineon has the best access to drivers out of any of the tracks. I must have gotten at least 20 cup drivers autographs there including jimmie johnson, jeff gordon and kyle busch. also the K&n pro series west garage is completely open to fans so u can get their autographs easily also

Not a big autograph guy, but you've got a point. Sending off for an autograph isn't the point, but having the guy sign it for you while you're there is much better.

Kind of like buying an event shirt for a race you've never been to.

Would NEVER wanna meet Tony lol

Got Kasey's autograph at a racing show here in PA, after a 3 hour line, so he wasn't really in a hey great to see you mood by the time I got to him, still cool.

I finally got to meet Bill Elliott after 30 years of being a fan. It was at Berlin raceway last summer when Chase and Kyle Busch ran there. Bill is Chases spotter so I sat where the spotters sit.

I got Kasey Kahnes' autograph at Vegas one year. I saw him heading to the elevators with his girlfiend, turned out the Casino where we weere staying was also one that a lot of drivers and crews stayed. I just walked up to him, started chatting and rode the elevator with him, he signed my hat and when he did that three other ladies in the elevator started freaking out. It was kind of like those old commercials, he was a all good natured about it, real nice guy.

Never met him face to face but a couple of years ago I used to play a couple of games with/against Kyle Busch online before he met his now wife. The main reason I'm a fan of his now. I didn't believe it was really him for a while, it sounded like him but I was still skeptical, until a couple of guys in our group confirmed it, they went to high school with him and that's how they kept in touch, talking while playing games online. I still play one of his buddies every now and then but ever since Kyle met whats her face he hasn't been around, he let his account expire a year ago or so.

If you get to the track early enough on Fridays and Saturdays the souvenir trailers will do the whole get a ticket for the autograph session later deal. I dont know if Jimmy does those at the lowes trailer or not. But I remember doing that one year and filling a hat up. Mayfield was still the coolest one ive met.

It wasn't me, but a couple years ago this kid with the group I am with every year brought a $100 bill and held onto to for Kasey Kahne to sign. He said he was getting it signed for someone back home. He got it signed alright, then lost it at the bar somehow (this groups was always drunk BTW)

He managed to get hold of another one, and Kasey signed it again.

not an autograph hunter, but got my favorite, ken schrader, at wilmot speedway, during a rainout. i held up his motorcycle while he went and signed a local racers car!

prior to that i had taken a bunch of nascar buddies to their first dirt race at hales corners and they were amazed at the accessablity of the drivers, including schrader, after the races. i told them nascar drivers used to be that easy to talk to prior to big dollar sponsor commitments taking up all their time.

mid 80's at michigan, we ran into geoff bodine in frank's iga grocery at brooklyn, mi the saturday before the race. then we caught up with harry gant, driving himself to the track in a corvette, infield parking lot fence.

as far as tony stewart, i don't believe he's any different than any other driver. catch them when they aren't busy, and they will usually take the time for the fans. but act like an a$$ and try to intrude while they are busy, you should expect to get your head bit off.

anyway, i wish you well getting jimmie's autograph. last thought, some of the drivers make appearances at their souvenir trailers during the weekend. but expect a mob!

I don't get many autographs. Actually, when you're at the races as media, getting autographs is a no-no. But Carmichael signed one for my friends' son who loves 2-wheel racing.

The coolest was interviewing Rusty Wallace at The White House in '09. I also like Allgaier and Carmichael. Allgaier's all around a level headed person.

Shayna and Jeremy are both cool people to talk to.

Watkins Glen seems to have one of the most fan friendly garages. I got alot of autographs, when I was young and went there. Jeff Gordon was hard though, he had his own little private space and this was like 94 when he was still a newcomer.. I was only 14 and was hanging outside his motortrailer all day, until he came out. Once he did, I pretty much blocked him (and Brooke) from getting into their car until he signed my stuff. He was awesome about it though. I got to talk to him for a minute. When I went to Charlotte 8 years ago, Jimmie was signing autographs right at his souvenir stand, I had the power of pride Lowe's car, that I brought with me, but I forgot it in the car, on our way to the busch race.

Being military, when I was stationed at Nellis in Las Vegas, the Cup guys would come down for testing just prior to the season & we would be able to get into the garage area no problem. During the actual Vegas race weekend, depending on the drivers Sponsor they would have autograph seesions in town, Jimmie 4 example would be at Lowe's signing auto's with a showcar there as well & of course Tony would be at the Home Depot. Also, I knew a guy in town who owned a diecast store and he had intel on when & where drivers would be so I found out Jeff Gordon was having a charity Poker tournament & went to the casino to see if I could catch him. I pretty much just stood by the door of the room he was in with a diecast & a sharpie. When he emerged the first time I said nothing & just watched him walk by I guess he was going to use the crapper, he came back like 5 minutes later & looked at me then grabbed the car out of my hand wihtout me saying a word. The damn Sharpie almost didn't work, Jeff looked at me and was like "Make sure it works before leaving the house next time". He shook it a little and it finally cooperated, man I was soo happy. Hey something else you can try is taking a trip to Mooresville in the Carolina's during the week, most of the raceshops have tours during the week & drivers sometimes are available then as well not to mention you get to see all the mansions the cars live in when they're not at the racetracks hauling azz...
