Mexico City

Without getting into the politics or other stuff that I've encountered on another board, I find this both interesting and somewhat promising for NASCAR. Be assured, dispite what Jim Hunter stated, that if the Busch or Craftsman Truck series are successfull and profitable in Mexco City, the Nextel Cup series is not far behind. :)

Sounds pretty exciting to me. I don't see anything wrong with a race in Mexico City, or in Canada. :bounce:

YeeeeeeeeeHawwwwwwww!!!!! Lessee, if they timed it
right, we might be able to work a cruise to Mexico City
and the race!!!!! Zounds!!!!!! What an idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do.

The Busch series teams can least afford it.

I hope it doesn't happen.

Canada would be OK with me.

I read that and also received email from a reputable site.

My take is this.........why would Nascar send BGN and or CTS to Mexico considering the cost to the teams just for transport???

I don't think that the purse would even cover the cost.

Sure, it's a huge market and races there would probably sell out BUT...with so many teams struggling for sponsorship, and Nascar saying it would be too expensive, I don't see it happening any time soon.

Guess I'm missing something here, don't understand why Canada would be OK and Mexico not OK???

I'll bet the purses would be some of the biggest in the series plus I think to get into them Markets NASCAR would kick in travel money to the teams.

Ever stop and think about the sponsorship possibilities in both Mexico and Canada?????

Mexico has beer companies on a par almost with Bud, with their Dos Equs(sp) Tecate,
Corona, etc. And how about the Telly packages??? I believe Mexico and Canada would both kick in
$$$$ to help support this effort.
We have lots of Canadian fans that are simply drooling to have NASCAR and the same for Mexico.
I am sure the $$$ part would be worked out.

Well, if it's just an exhibition race it would be voluntary............no points. Any team going would certainly have to have sponsor support (and my bet is that NASCAR would kick in a bit too). Canada or Mexico.........the cost would be taken care of in it's to be successful. It's being tossed around by NASCAR and someone in Mexico.....let's see the particulars before we jump to conclusions. Who knows, it could possibly be the least expensive race for the series involved to participate in. We know nothing yet. :)

Driving the Mexican roads is unsafe. Bandits, hijackings, etc. Not my idea of a fun trip. The roads and facilities aren't anything near as good as what we have here in the states.

Plus they gouge you on other services such as telephone. If the race was to be held somewhere close to the border, it might not be so bad. But a road trip to Mexico city is something that I would not care to make and would probably outright refuse.

I don't have the same concerns about Canada.

Ok, Thank you for explaining. That gives me a better understanding of your point of view.

My biggest concerns about that track seem to have been addressed. It used to have a junk surface, but it is my understanding that has been fixed.

The next issue is the schedule again. nascar needs to work with the teams to come up with a schedule of events that will be managable from an "economy of scale" standpoint. Recent history has shown nascar to be unwilling to consider the wishes/desires/logistical capability/existing budgets of the teams putting on the "show".

Expansion can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how it is executed...ever hit a nitrous button. If everything is done right, it's a blast! If something is faulty, it's also a blast(!), but the wrong kind.
