Michael Andretti

Tell us how you really feel.

I feel the same way too. But he's an owner now, so...

I CLEANED IT UP SO IT WOULDN'T BE LACED WITH PROFANITY. BUT, I USED TO BE A BIG ANDRETTI FAN, NO MORE! BUSINESS DECISION MY A_S! HE SHOULD HAVE FOUND ANOTHER SPONSOR.I HOPE HE FAILS. AND YES, I AM A HATER, SO WHAT! MICHAEL ANDRETTI SUCKS AND SO DOES THE IRL. SHALL I ELABORATE MORE PAUL?

Well howdy Peerlessmike,Welcome to the forum.Would it be safe to say you don't care much for Andretti,or the IRL?:D Welcome my friend.:)

YES PBUNCH, YOU CAN SAY I DONT CARE FOR MUCH FOR MICHAEL ANDRETTI OR THE IRL. MICHAEL WAS MY FAVORITE DRIVER OUTSIDE OF GREG MOORE, SO NOW THAT HE HAS SHOWN WHAT TYPE OF GUY HE TRULY IS I DONT HAVE A NICE WORD FOR HIM. PERSONALLY, I CANT SEE ANYBODY WHO IS A CART FAN ,THAT ACTUALLY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT RACING, ROOTING FOR HIS SUCCESS. HIM GOING TO TONY GEORGE AND APOLOGIZING AND SAYING HE'S BEEN WATCHING THE LAST COUPLE OF RACES AND COMMENTIN ON HOW EXCITING THEY WERE....B.S! AND FOR ALL THE EXPERTS OUT THERE, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BRINGING DOWN THE COST OF RACING. THIS IS PURELY GEORGES EGO AND HIS PUSH FOR CONTROL. I HOPE HE GETS RUN OVER AT HIS TRACK SOME DAY, RIGHT AFTER MICHAEL OF COURSE.P.S. GLAD TO BE HERE THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Just curious...are you mad that he's leaving or upset because you believe he's lying about the reason he's leaving?

I'm a CART fan...and I think its sad that he, Franchitti and Kanaan are leaving...but I don't hate any of them or wish for their failure in the IRL. This us (CART) vs. them (IRL) mentality is the problem with open wheel racing in America IMHO :(

I AM MAD HE'S LEAVING. I DONT CARE ABOUT "OPEN WHEEL RACING IN AMERICA" WINDY CITY. THE IRL IS A **** SERIES. THE ONLY REASON IT HAS MADE IT THIS FAR IS BECAUSE OF THE INDY 500. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN RACE FAN IS LIKE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN BOXING FAN......THEY'RE IGNORANT. THEY WANT TO SEE THE BIG RACE THATS IT AND THE SPONSORS WANT THEIR NAMES ON THOSE CARS IN THE INDY 500. NOBODY KNOWS OR GIVES A **** ABOUT EDDIE CHEEVER, BILLY BOAT, OR SARAH FISCHER FOR THAT MATTER, ALTHOUGH I DO ROOT FOR SARAH, REAL RACE FANS WANT TO SEE QUALITY DRIVERS COMPETE IN QUALTIY CARS REGARDLESS OF WHAT COUNTRY THEY ARE FROM. TONY GEORGE IS SO FULL OF **** IT'S PATHETIC. HE WANTS CONTROL, AND UNFORTUNATELY IT APPEARS HE IS WINNING. ALL THE CART DRIVERS AND OWNERS NEEDED TO DO WAS STICK TO THEIR GUNS, QUALIFY A FEW DRIVERS AND THEN KICK THE **** OUT OF THE IRL DRIVERS LIKE THEY HAVE ON EVERY RACE THEY HAVE COMPETED IN. BUT NOW THE JERKOFF PENSKE DEFECTED, BECAUSE OF HIS SPONSOR, IT HAS STARTED A DOMINOE EFFECT, AND I DONT SEE A HAPPY ENDING HERE. THIS IS RUINING THE ONLY TRUE OPEN WHEEL RACING I CARE ABOUT. NO OFFENCE TO YOU DIRT TRACKERS, I'M JUST TELLING YOU WHAT I LIKE. BUT MARK MY WORD, THE MINUTE CART GOES UNDER, I HOPE NEVER, YOU ARE GOING TO SEE ALOT OF CART DRIVERS IN THE NEWS HAVING TESTING FOR THE IRL OWNERS. THE IRL DRIVERS SIMPLY CANNOT COMPETE ON THE SAME LEVEL. THEN WHAT YOU WILL HAVE IS A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY BEING POURED INTO RESEARCH AND DEVELOPEMENT FOR THE IRL CARS AND SKYROCKETING COSTS AND PROBABLY A PUSH FOR TURBCHARGED ENGINES AND SO ON AND SO ON UNTIL WHAT YOU HAVE IS SOMETHING RESEMBLING THE CART SERIES OF OLD WITH PUNK ASS TONY GEORGE IN CONTROL AND ALL THAT WAS REALLY ACCOMPLISHED IS A CHANGING OF THE GUARD AND A FEW PISSED OFF FANS LIKE ME. I AM LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A WIFE THAT LOVES RACING. WE GO TO LAGUNA EVERY YEAR, GREAT TRACK, YOU CAN SEE ABOUT 60 TO 70% OF THE RACE. WE HAVE BEEN TO LAGUNA, LONG BEACH, AND VANCOUVER RACES THIS YEAR AND ARE NOW SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING MEXICO BECAUSE WE ARE NOT SURE THERE WILL BE A CART SEASON NEXT YEAR. BUT SHE HAS ALWAYS CALLED MICHAEL A WHINING LITTLE PUNK AND NOW I HAVE TO AGREE WITH HER. I STILL HOPE HE FAILS. I HOPE PAUL TRACY SLAPS HIM BEFORE HE GETS AWAY. I AM SO PISSED RIGHT NOW THAT I DONT HAVE THE INCLINATION TO BE MATURE ABOUT THIS ....... for those of you who are wondering. BUT I DONT THINK HE LYING ABOUT WHY HES LEAVING, I JUST THINK HE'S A P_SSY FOR DOING SO! BUT LIKE I SAID, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COST OF RACING, IF YOU THINK IT DOES YOU ARE SORELY MISTAKEN MY FRIENDS. AND THANKS, I AM GLAD TO BE HERE. THIS IS THE FIRST MESSAGE BOARD I HAVE JOINED OR POSTED ON. MIKE

If I may be so blunt as to pipe in here, what I think windy was saying when he said it shows was..... it's kind of obvious to him that this is your first time to a message board. I believe one of his "clues" on this is the fact that you type in all caps. Caps are generally used for yelling or accentuating a particular word. It's also a little harder to read when everything is in caps. Windy, if I'm wrong forgive me and please correct me.

:)

Well, excuse my improper punctuation! You asked me a question and I answered it and your reply is to criticize my effort. It shows that this is my first message board does it? You have obviously missed my point. So, since you are apparently so "smart" I'll spell it out for you. My point was that this is the first time I have felt stong enough to join one of these message boards HOT SHOT! You're not too bright are you. If you want to welcome someone to your message board and pretend you are friendly towards them I think that a little tact might be in order. Duh!

Ahem...

Firstly, if you want to be welcomed to a message board you might not want to type in ALL CAPS. All they did was tell you that you were typing in all caps.

Relax.

Paul, I never said I wanted to be welcomed to your message board. It's not that they have corrected me, it's the fact that he asked me a question, I answered, and what my friend here chose to do was focus on my last statement. So , no Paul, that is not all they did. He might have said,"Hey Peerless good point but , might I suggest you not use all caps, it's very hard to read," instead of "It shows". All I asked for was a little tact. Read my post, if you can, then look at his response, looks like an insult to me.

I thought the "It shows" was a reference to your being angry.

Not a big deal, let's move on. :)

Sincerest apologies Mike. No need to be so prickly though mate.

I joined this board because people here seem to be genuine fans of motor racing. I've found few posts that claim..."our racing is the best...you're (style of) racing sucks" Frankly, I think its what separates these forums from the rest that I've been on.

I've never felt more comfortable posting on an IRL, NASCAR, CART and F1 forum all on the same board as I do here. Mainly because that kind of stuff doesn't go on here.

Its fine if you want to rant and rave about Michael Andretti...but I find it hard to believe that anyone placed in his shoes and faced with the decision to stay or go would do anything different. Its laughable to think that he owes you or CART anything. The people he does owe are the 70 or 80 families that work for him...and rely on him being in business for the foreseeable future...and yeah it doesn't hurt to make a few extra bucks in the process.

Everyone wants to blame Tony George for CART's demise...I'm amazed that you've omitted any mention of how badly CART has been managed for the past 4-5 years...THAT (caps for emphasis) is the reason CART is on the brink of extinction imho.

For the record...I hope CART and Chris Pook pull through this without Michael, Franchitti and Kanaan and whoever else bales...as like you, I'm a CART and F1 fan first...and have a special appreciation for road racing.

But at the end of the day...I can understand Andretti's motivation to make the "safe" decision.

IRL is a great series!!! They have had some of the best races of all time this year!!! The cars are fun to watch, the races are close and they run on some awesome race tracks! Andretti is making a good choice leaving Cart!

IRL is putting on a better show than nascar is now adays!

All the IRL needs is some more cars and some more races and they will be OK!

I like Cart too but im tired of watching these road races with absolutely no passing what so ever!!!!!!!

And I'm tired of the ownership in CART only hiring foreign drivers! This is America !!!!!!!!!! Read Tony Stewarts book for more info about this subject!

The IRL did put on some good races this year, but they were all on the big ovals. I went to the Phoenix race and it was pretty boring, but Phoenix usually is. When CART races on big banked ovals they usually put on a great show, but in their infinite wisdom, they've decided to get rid of most of those races. They think it's more exciting to watch cars follow the leader through downtown Miami or Denver. I would like both CART and the IRL to hire more American drivers, but if you're bringing a sponsor with you you're going to get the ride.

I feel the same about watching F1. It seems everybody is following Michael around the track. Not to detract from the series, but it seems Michael wins every race with the exception of a few. At least in Cart the winners change from time to time. What do you guys think?

Paul, do you think Team Ferrari dominates because of their deep pockets, or is it that none of the other teams really put in the same effort as Ferrari does?

Ok, I'm new to this message board. I have read what you have to say about Michael and personally I'm shocked!

Michael is my favorite open wheel driver and when the IRL first formed I hated it too! But how can you people be so nieve? Do you really think Andretti is going to go down with the sinking ship?

You can't let foolish pride get in the way of your career and your business. I meen look at CART! I'm a huge fan but they f***** it up real bad and waited to long to try and fix it.

Say wha you want about CART being the best cars and drivers in North America or even the world. I used to believe in that as well. In fact I'm on of those weirdo's who just loves road racing so I can't even believe I'm sticking up for an all oval series (perhaps not for much longer).

Do you ever listen to your friends, you know the ones that root for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Al Unser Jr. cause their dadies were the greatest drivers to ever live?

I hate to say it folks but racing isn't about technology and driver ability (shifting and breaking and adjusting to the different types of courses ever other weekend). It's not about that at all.

It's about one thing and one thing only, entertainment. That's what people love about NASCAR and that's what they love about the IRL.

Wheel to Wheel racing lap after lap w/30 + car fields. That's what people want and that's what CART used to be but in case you haven't noticed it isn't anymore. And on top of it they have lost Penske, Andretti, most of Ganassi and posibly even Rahle? All of these peopel I just mentioned helped make CART what it was in it's hay day but you have to go where the sponsors want you. Find another sponsor? You think that's easy? Sponsorship has never been easy and it's even more difficult these days.

Maybe that's why Andretti switched? His sponsor wanted to go to IRL and lets not forget the fact that the IRL is considerably less expensive than CART, even with there chasis freez! And that's all I have to say about that, thank you.

Howdy benchracer...welcome to the board.

Great post, I think most of the frustration comes from the fact that some people prefer road courses to ovals...and seeing yet another staple leave the series is pretty disheartening.

But, I agree with you pretty much on everything...

Howdy paul, thanks for the warm welcome. I am glad you agree and I too am extremly frustrated with loosing Michael. The only saving grace is that maybe he can focus on winning Indy?

Hi Benchracer! You make some great points. I do think that CART is not out of it yet. It is a little late but I think they might pull it off. We'll have to wait and see. I know that finding a new sponsor is tough, but it can be done. And if there's anyone who could have found a sponsor it's M.A.
I hear what you are saying about racing being entertainment. Correct me if I'm wrong but what I have seen in the stands at the IRL races is about 20,000 to 30,000 people and CART seems to draw consistently more fans. The only race that seems to draw a crowd is INDY. Like I said we'll have to wait and see. Welcome to the boards. Peerlessmike

Hey Peerlessmike

Are the IRL crowds still that low? That is pathetic because that is wha they drew back in there inagural season!! I could be wrong but I think the race in Kanas City sells out! But we're just so excited to have major racing in Kansas (Heartland Park is virtually unused these days).

I hope CART does make it, I would hate to see it go. P.S. I now now that Ganassi is leaving as well, but is it true that Rahaul doesn't have anything lined up for next year?

Both I would have to say. Ferrari have a budget of around half a billion dollars, where as a team like Minardi have something like 50 million. Yet Minardi do very well at showing up at each GP and keeping within the 107% rule in qual. I don't think people realise just how close it can be :) And even as a huge schumi fan as I am, I would love to see someone like Villi, DC, Ralf in a great car making Michael work extra hard for those wins...

As an Andretti fan also, mainly because I knew of him from his father Mario, it's sad to hear he will not be racing in CART any longer. I love all open wheel racing and CART mainly because we have the Gold Coast race and we get races live on telly. And if IRL were to have a race here and we were to get it on TV I would be happy to watch him over there and get into that series! But I guess it's easier for me to say that, as it would seem Americans either follow one or the other. I love all motor sports...from Formula Ford with 16 y.. kids goin' round to F1...I see no reason to only enjoy one?

Neither do I Tiger, and I've never heard a good explanation for only liking one.

I think it has to do alot with popular opinion and peers. If most people don't like one, some people are afraid to say they like it.

Or they simply don't understand the series, and don't care to take the time to try and understand.

Swamp Buggies? One question...Do they have a motor? If so...bring it on :p

Yes Tiger, they have motor, or more actually, they have engines. These are cars of various designs that are from old Jeeps, to the bizzare shapes of vehicles with huge, slim wheels. They race around a track of water with varying depths. The Sippi hole is the deepest. I've not seen them run in many years, but I used to watch them on cable TV now and then. Lots of fun.

It sounds like mad fun to watch....never heard or seen it before though unfortunately. We don't get NASCAR down here, so wanting Swamp Buggies would be pushing it :)

With regard to little Mikeee's defection to the IRL (and Barry Green with the other rats) I do hope that as he was departing Mario gave little Mikeee a good swift kick in the ass to send him on the way -- with what he deserves!

I'm sure it wouldn't have hurt little Mikeee at all because the way he's been racing for the past few seasons -- he doesn't have anything down there to damage.

There are a lot of hard charing women far braver than little Mikeee these days!

Keep on keepin' on CART!

Looooong time fan
Switz
