I'm curious as to what they actually did. The rule clearly says that you may have an on/off switch for the alternator, so it must have gone further than simply not having a functioning alternator. I wonder if it was one not capable of producing output, IE, one with internal parts missing. If you removed the armature, it's conceivable you could gain a couple of horsepower. Enough to really matter? That's always the question. Risk VS reward.
