Michigan question

Maybe someone can help me on a couple of things.

Why was the truck race so much better than the cup race? There are more dominant truck teams than others, just like sprint, but the racing was so much closer and we didn't have a clear winner with 10 to go. Sprint cup cars are as about equal to each other as in the trucks, right? I know some teams will always be better than other but it still seems much more even in trucks.

Why does the truck series not get anywhere near the attention it deserves? Consistently this season I have enjoyed the truck a whole lot more than the other two series just for the fact that the races are so much closer. I can't be the only one to notice this and surely nascar has noticed it being better racing.

I think the racing is closer and tighter because the trucks create so much dirty air that they really can't get away from each other.

The cars require more clean air to keep the nose planted. The trucks are just flat slabs sticking out there.

simply put- The trucks run every race like it's daytona just because of the draft factor. They make a huge hole in the air, probably enough for 2 or 3 trucks. Cup isn't so much. They only make a draft that fits about 1 car. So 2 trucks 2 carlengths apart are drafting- cup don't draft until they're darn near pushing eachother.

I think it's the COT. Have you noticed that whoever gets out front can usually stay there unless they have a really bad car? I mean you can take a 20th place car and stay in the top 5 at least because with the COT you just can't pass unless your car is far better than everyone else.

The distance of the race is a factor also. The 'Cup guys run more conservative to save fuel.

Yea I have noticed that as well. Its as if whoever gets the slightest bit better changes in the pit and the better restart, after a lap or two they are gone.

And Distance, like Pettyblue said, has to have something to do with it. Truck guys seem to go more balls out or maybe it appears that way on TV.

For the most part Michigan has always produced that type of racing. Yes, there are exceptions but with the old car, new car, I don't see much difference at that track. Passing withe the old car wasn't always so easy either. Please don't forget the endless talk of the dreaded aero-push that was talked about with the old car. The guy out front has had a huge advantage for a long, long time.

Did't Hamlin pass a lot of cars? I saw at least once when he had the fuel pressure issue , he came right back through the field. Aero didn't seem to be a problem , he was just good.

It was as bad with the old car. That was supposed to be the big selling point with the COT, but it didn't work.

The truck race at Michigan was also just 100 laps. No riding around or there's no time to catch up.

Nickel sized dent in a cup car fender takes it from running in the top 5 to a 20th place finish.
Rip the side off a truck and it's just a flesh wound, it'll still run at the front.
Cup cars are like F-1, trucks are trucks, beatin' and bangin' the way racing should and used to be.
Just my 2¢

I'm still surprised at how dreadful the ARCA race was. Usually those races are good because they're so short. Not this one. That was terrible, even radio couldn't save that pathetic race.

As for the Truck race being good, every track has its occasional fluke good race.

I've always thought Michigan was boring. Every now and then, there's a good race there (even California and Indianapolis have an occasional exciting race) but for the most part, they're pretty boring. Of the 400 laps the Cup cars ran there last year, there was ONE exciting lap (Jimmie and Biffle running out of fuel and Mark rolling over them for the win).

Dreadful wasn't the word for it. What was up with those restarts? One car was 8 car lengths ahead of the rest of the pack on one restart.....I guess the ACRA "officials" don't care what happens...

Maybe they just wanted it over with too. :D
