I have XP on all but one computer of mine. I like Windows 7, will NOT ever use Windows 8. From now on, it's Apple-only for me.

This is going to be a problem for the banks and the corporate world though. Most of the corporate world still uses Windows XP and Windows 2000 because Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 are not, have never been and will never be network friendly. I imagine Corporate America will start using Apple products because of this.

then why are nearly all academic campuses comprised of several thousand windows 7 enterprise computers?

Corporate America new five years ago (or more) that support was ending for XP.

Department of Defense too. At least we were smart enough to know that support was ending and moved up to Win 7 over a year ago. XP computers aren't even allowed to touch the network anymore.

Really?! Damn, I love Windows 7.

No way most companies make the switch to Apple any time soon. Too much enterprise software is not compatible with it. Plus, Excel isn't as robust in Apple. That alone keeps me from making the jump...

My biggest gripe is WIN7 does support Outlook Express email. I've used Outlook Express since I first got internet access in 1989, 25 years ago. 25 years of 'stuff' gone.

Third party companies will continue to provide "support" in the form of updating virus programs well into 2015.
btw, autocorrect strikes again, I meant to say "I'll only go only on line with WIN 7 POS it is".

VaDirt, I admit I am resistance to change. I really don't see any advantage to the average home computer putz WIN7 provides. I don't use this computer for work, I go on various forums, search Craigs, EvilBay and Amazon. Email family, friends and play solitaire.

At first I had a hard time with 7 but after a few weeks I wouldn't log on with anything else. My brother has 2 computers, Win 8 and an apple that I tried. My experience wasn't pretty so I hope they never pull the plug on 7.

Most of our clients in the 'corporate world' have long since moved away from XP to more recent versions of Windows. I have a few stragglers that I am updating this week. Side note..... None are using or plan on moving to Apple products.

Are you using 7 or 8 DP?
At the office we run everything back through Windows 3.1. We maintain the full gambit of Windows based systems. I was simply pointing out that we have never had one single client show any interest in moving to an Apple based product.

At home I'm on Windows 7.

Well that's very informative, built off of some sort of Windows format..
My house is built off of some sort of wood, my truck off of some sort of steel...

Bob, the win7 version of OE is Windows Live Mail. Anti-Monopoly laws require that windows no longer come with a mail software, you have to download it as part of the windows essential package. From there you can go to Accounts -> export all in OE, save to a flash drive, then go to accounts -> import in live mail, and import all your contacts, emails, ext.

Windows 8 is terrible. I got a new laptop awhile back and it was so bad I returned it and went back to this one with 7.

I've used it a few times and hate it. I don't care how much people try talking me in to using it. The same people trying to talk me in to using Windows 8 are the same people who talked me in to getting an Android phone and that was nothing but endless aggravation.

I LOVE win 7, because you can use it with out activating it. You just have to put up with getting a notice every once in a while about it not being genuine. Win 8 isn't too bad if you have the classic shell installed.

You would still be able to use it. Just dont count on Microsoft to update your computer every month.

If you're not a big company reliant on the system, this doesn't affect you much. For every day use XP its still good.

That is, unless you're some type of hacker and have people cyber attacking you every 2 minutes. :p

I've had 7 ever since it came out. I got rid of Vista first chance I got.

One of the issues with MS not offering support or security updates for XP is that many retail POS systems are running it and agreements with credit card companys require the use of operating systems which are able to receive security updates. Many of these POS systems are not capable of running Windows 7 or higher due to their limitations for hardware upgrades

There are options to MS software, however.

"security updates for XP is that many retail POS systems...."
hehehe sorry but my first thought was PIECE OF **** systems, not point of sale:):)

LOL. I remember as a kid being in a dept store before POS systems and how quickly those cashiers could type in the product codes.
