With 18 of the 36 races behind us, I thought it might be interesting to assess the season so far:

Best race: A lot of good ones, but I'm gonna go with Fontana. The tire issues kept it interesting, and the Kyle and Kyle show at the end was fun to watch.

Worst race: Daytona this past weekend.

Most surprising driver: Paul Menard. 10th in points right now, and has been RCR's best team many weeks.

Most disappointing driver: Kasey Kahne. To be running like he is when the other three HMS teams are running like they are, doesn't look too good.

Bonehead of the Year (so far): Brad Keselowski for causing a wreck while 6 laps down at Talladega

Rate the Season: I'll go an 8. Still hate the new chase format, but the racing has been good most weeks.

Your thoughts?

Best race : Daytona 500 because Jr won, and it was a great race
Worst race : hard to choose one, but i will go with Phoenix, wasn't a terrible race, but not great
Most surpising driver: Paul Menard, been running in the top 10 most of the season, is clearly having his best season
Most disappointing driver: Martin Truex Jr, had a great season last year, and i was expecting more this year
Bonehead of the year to this point: he might be my 2nd favorite driver, but Keselowski at Talladega causing the wreck
Rate the Season : 9.5 great racing almost every weekend

Best race: Richmond - With the pole sitter getting dumped in the first turn of the first lap, tire wear, tire fires, five drivers roughing each other up over the final ten laps, and the best punch NASCAR has seen in years, this race pretty much had it all.

Worst race: Firecracker 400 - Mother Nature did us a favor by cutting this one short.

Most surprising driver: Jeff Gordon - Not sure what the hell got into him and his team this year. At this point in the year the last two seasons they were 17th and 14th in points with zero wins. Now he leads the points and has the best driver rating in the series, and his worst finish at a real race track is 15th.

Most disappointing driver: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. - Was supposed to be new face of RFR yet he continues to regress with each passing week. That organization isn't what it used to be but they still have Top 15 cars, and here he is sitting in 28th in points and in driver rating.

Bonehead of the year: Keselowski - Wiping out the field trying to win from 43rd and six laps down at Talladega, gift-wrapping Jr. the win at Pocono, and cutting his hand open during the Victory Lane celebration last week. It's not even close.

Rate the season: 7.5

Best race: Richmond easy... great race, best finish of the year and.. well .. u know the other part ;)
Worst race: Gonna have to agree with everyone and say this past weekends at Daytona... but I didnt even see it bc I was up north at the cottage.. and thats the only reason why lol
Most surprising driver: Joey... Joey.... Joey..... Joey :) lol
Most disappointing driver: Tony Stewart... #smokewillrise?
Bonehead of the Year (so far): Tough one... but I might have to go with the guy in charge of the TNT Audioo_O
Rate the Season: 22 :D

Best race: Does Road America count? If not, maybe Martinsville.

Worst race: Daytona II and its not even close.

Most surprising driver: Harvick/Gordon speed.

Most disappointing driver: Kenseth - from 8 wins to will he win?

Bonehead of the Year (so far): Kez at Talledega is the only one that comes to mind not to say there aren't more deserving candidates.

Rate the Season: 10/10 - I deal with the crap but I love the parity.

best race-kansas
Worst-daytona II (I want races to finish under green)
Surprising driver-Menard and Patrick. Both have made strides...I actually thought Patrick might not be doing as well as she is. I hoped she would...
Disappointing driver-Kasey....expectations were high
bonehead of the year so far-gotta go with the others...kez taking out field.
Rate season=10/10 Racing is exciting again

Most surprisng or rejuvenated: Jeff Gordon if not for restarts I think he would be having the best year of any, and be the title favorite. Still the same I think they have to work on the restarts to have a shot at Homestead. They are better in every other area this year, seems like they could add a little more focus to this biggest improvement opportunity down the stretch.

Other surprises: Harvick but with a bittersweet edge, lots of speed without closing several deals.

Edwards making the most of his opportunities and winning twice when RFR is having a crap year.

Not good: Kahne sooner or later even bad luck reflects badly on the talent. Things are suppose to weigh out the good and bad, and you have to get it done, he just isnt working out this year. I have always believed he is a great talent, but he needs to seize a few moments soon. After a while fairly of not simple bad luck becomes part of ones identity, like his personal plague.

Vickers gets a below average grade so far this year. It hasn't sucked, it just hasnt met expectations.

Bowyer is very stealth, to far away from the front this year.

Truax, nowhere near as fast as Kurt in the 78.

Stenhouse his year has sucked and RFR has to be losing patience. RFR seems more chalenged than ever, they cannot afford his slump, I think his job security is in critical condition.

Menard is a good story, but I am still not convinced that he can put a total 36 quality drives per year yet.
