Mike Ditka forming a NASCAR team?

What does Jegs make anyways? Never heard of it.

Regardless, though, it's always nice to see a new team open up.

Here we go again. Another big name football guy who seems to think it's just that easy. Good luck to him.
Maybe he should talk to Aikmen and Staubach or even Dan Marino.

If Jegs is involved in it, then it will be a first class top notch opeation. They don't do anything second class.

Ah, I see. Should be a good looking paint scheme.

Anyone think they know what drivers/make they will run?

Saw this on my hometown's website, apparently former Chicago Bears coach and current ESPN analyst Mike Ditka may be forming a NASCAR team with backing from Jegs, whose HQ is here in town. Don't know if anything will come of this, but I thought it was interesting...

if "Da Coach" comes back to Chicago promoting his involvement with a NASCAR Cup team, maybe Chicagoland can get back to packin' the joint like they did up until a few years ago

The article says Cody Coughlin, who races late models.

Suppose Mark Martin is changing retirement plans yet again ;)

The number one prerequisite for being a car owner in this sport is being able to attract and keep sponsors . Everything else can be purchased. (ted@economy 2013)

What's the NASCAR equivilant of trading away your team's future for Ricky Williams (wedding dress optional)?

As 17D500 said, Cody Coughlin as the driver, and I would guess Chevrolet as the manufacturer based on the pictures above.

They actually have used many manufacturers in their time. Jeg currently runs a Dodge in Pro Stock, so I'm sure they're open to manufacturers. (Hope you're right though:D) I think they'll be a satellite team, as it takes a lot of time to build a program. If not maybe start with a truck or Nationwide team. I don't see them just building a Sprint Cup team to start with, not one that's any good at least. Hope they realize there's turns involved in NASCAR though.....Coughlins are good in a straight line.

I just can't see a "Mike Ditka Personality" coexisting with the NASCRAP BRASS...Although old man Jeggy does have a more subdued dimeaner.....

Maybe your on to something there GP for next year, let the rumors begin. :D

I guess that rules out the possibility of them being a Cup team, then.

It seems as though they have their sites on cup in the future but obviously isn't going to happen anytime soon without an experienced driver.

Ah, I meant Jeg jr. Thanks for the clarification.

If this team does materialize, I wonder how long Ditka can stick with it? At age 73, he's not exactly a Spring chicken, and it'll take several years for this to be a Cup-ready team if that's the direction they eventually want to go.

If it comes to be it wouldn't by far be the first time a company used an athlete with a minority partnership as a figurehead to get more sponsors, but we can speculate forever, oh-wait that's what we mostly do on here.

Old guys like Ditka sometimes need something other than growing orchids to keep them going. Jack Roush and Joe Gibbs are 71 and 72 respectively.

Maybe he's looking for a way to get out of sitting next to Chris Berman all day every Sunday in the fall.

Ditka has family relations to Jeggs? That explains a lot...
