Hes been really deadpanned this year

Lot of mistakes

I understand he was sick at Fontana but his sigh at D.W's "have you ever" was very noticeable.

I have a feeling this year or next will be his last

I caught that!

*sigh while trying to regain his voice*

"No Darrell....... I've never."

I notice the sigh when ever he says Corey Lajoie

Really guys?

The "have you ever - No, I've never" exchange between the two is a running schtick with them.

I think you're looking for something that's not there. Mike Joy might get tired of DW at times, but he's still one of the best in the business.

Mike joy seemed beyond annoyed by d.w.

That's why it was brought up

His voice is just too high and annoying. When he plays things up I think he's going to explode.
Gotcha, yea, I can see that. My second choice would be move Chris Myers to the booth then.

Put Wendy Venturing and Jamie Little in the booth.

I have nothing against your first guy Bestwick, solid racing play-by-play man.

Chris Myers was the mainstream sports guy Fox brought in back in 2001 to sort of 'normalize' NASCAR during its new national TV push. He is an enjoyable studio host, but he has no background or authority in racing. He was the casual audience members' surrogate who would pop in to cover the events like a "Sportscenter" anchor would and ask his analyst partner novice questions about what was happening on the track. He could do this for 40 years and he would still be filling that role. He would be completely lost trying to call a race.

I agree with this. Chris Myers is the one guy on the broadcasts that I can't stand. His voice is nails on a blackboard to me. Let him stick with football.

From the races I have watched this year I have noticed that Mike joy refers and defers to Jeff Gordon a lot more than DW.

It's maybe because Jeffy has a more refreshing take on the cars.

Chris Myers is a dedicated talkin’ head. Thinkin’ he’s earned a gig as a daytime TV game show host. Co-host maybe a former Monster Girl with big………….. intellect.

I’d really miss his commentary durin’ football games ‘n NASCAR motorsports shows but he’s earned it.

Nascar talking heads I get tired of sometimes but they don't compare to the NFL guys. Not all NFL guys that retire should be anywhere near a microphone,I actually feel sorry for some of them.

I think he is at ESPN right now, but I always thought Allen Bestwick was decent.
I think he was more than decent. Bestwick was one of the most knowledgeable lead announcers behind the mic. Him being replaced by a wannabe magician was one of the dumbest moves ever made in the booth by any network.

Yep.

Nothing wrong with Mike Joy. I get pissed when Darrell Waltrip screams overtop of him like a raving lunatic in the final laps though.

I've announced races at five different racetracks and it's so easy to make a mistake. And fans will beat the **** out of every mistake, even though there isn't a chance in hell they could do a better job.

If you want to see mistake prone, watch some of the races Bill Weber called. Or some of the races in the mid-90s that Ken Squier was on the call for.

Chris Myers does the play-by-play for a lot of Fox's NFL coverage and does a good job of it.

Allen Bestwick was GREAT on NBC. The call of the 2001 Pepsi 400 is right up there with Mike Joy's call of the 1998 Daytona 500 and Ken Squier's call of the 1979 Daytona 500. Not to mention, the trio of Bestwick/Parsons/Dallenbach was my favorite.

Everyone has different tastes though. Some people don't like boisterous announcers like Rick Allen and Allen Bestwick and others don't like announcers who aren't boisterous, see Adam Alexander or Dave Burns. Mike Joy is somewhere in between Rick Allen and Adam Alexander and I think that's why the majority of fans favor him over anyone.

Yep. Those broadcasts in 2006 were ... something. Benny Parsons was dying (literally) and got maybe 20 words in during the whole race and Bill Weber was just not good. When the racing was getting exciting, Weber completely froze up. Wally Dallenbach carried those broadcasts that final year on his own -- and fans, to this day, say he wasn't any good. Criminally underrated.

Allen, Benny, and Wally were fun because you could tell they were having fun. Gordon, DW, and Mike have about as much chemistry as mashed potatoes. They really had more chemistry with McReynolds in the booth. I don't think DW has ever liked Jeff.

About the only thing I didn't like about Bestwick is how he was always jonesing for a wreck, but I liked him otherwise.
