Subbing for injured Johnny Benson, Mike Wallace posted the 25th best lap during the first practice. The team was hoping to pick up a little and have a good qualifying run. Ended up 36th, just out of provisional land.
MIKE WALLACE, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (36th):
"We're really disappointed with that lap because the car is way better than that. I just didn't get the job done when it counted right there. We were a top-25 car in practice and definitely should have been that in qualifying. But, for some reason or another, I just couldn't make it happen there.
"We've got a great race car. The Valvoline Pontiac is really fast. But, for some reason, I didn't get the lap accomplished."
