Mikey Calls For Changes To Qualifying

And who would have gone home in his place?
What do you do about their sponsor?
This is not your Saturday night short track racing. This is Big Business. Start up businesses in almost every endeavor have a hard time getting started. He knew the risks before he started so I don't feel sorry for him.
You are trying to oversimplify the situation.

WHY ????
That is what is wrong with the world today everyone tries to make everything harder that it really is.
why can't it be simple or would you rather see 50 cars tryin to race at BMS or martinsville. i say let the 43 fastest race the rest go home. you can bet if jr or gordon went home one weekend they would have a better car the next weekend.

No what's wrong with the world today is folks who don't like the rules that have been in place for quite some time deciding that those rules need to be changed. It's this instant self gratification Me Me World that has done us in.
Besides its not harder than it really is. No one has any problem figuring out who stays and who goes home. Heck the Talking Heads on TV even have their little graphic that plots who's in and who's out.
It's just something else people can gripe and whine about. The funny thing is if this were a different driver crying all these crocodile tears y'all be ready to rip them a new one.

BP I think what some of us including those in NASCAR are saying is that today's NASCAR is so much more competitive and different then just a few years ago. Remember the "field fillers" we had showing up week in and week out? The competition is so tight now the difference from racing and going home is one hundredths of a second when it used to be just plain seconds. I do not know about eliminating the top 35 rule all together. I'd hate to see someone towards the top have to pack up and go home because they ran over some debris and cut a tire down. Why not have it as the top 25 or even bring back 2nd day qualifying just to help those that might have had some bad luck the day before. I still like the idea of running the go or go homers together. That would add some excitement to the telecast.

i guess i am showing early signs of old timers but when did the top 35 rule start.
and bp i am not a fan of MW i just think the fastest 43 race the rest go to the house

I've got an idea about this!

How about taking the top 35 drivers from last year, and giving them 6 races to STAY in the top 35? If they are not able to STAY in the top 35 then after 6 races whoever IS in the top 35 get the by?
Then if the top 35 changes over the year as some rise and some fall in points, some get in and some get out.
Then the following year it starts the same way all over again... How bout that for an idea?
Betsy:rolleyes:

So if as N2 says a car wrecks during quals, tough. And, if they don't get the track clean for the cars after and they blow a tire tough.
I'd also throw in that a fast car during qualifying does not necessarily mean they will be fast during the race. Look at the list of those going home. Who would you replace from those making the race? Harvick? Mikey was faster...

look bp i didn't come here to get into a pissin contest with you i just think the fastest 43 should race i don't care if morgan shepard is faster than the 29 the 8 the 24 i don't care who he should get in, and no more impound races, that way everyone goes in qualifying trim

Explain please. If you don't impound the cars then they could set the car up for qualifying and then change it to race trim. On impound races the car takes the green as it qualified including the amount of gas they had in the tank which can make some difference due to the weight.

they all qualify in qualifying trim if there is no impound, then in happy hour they put the car through it's paces in race trim. i guess you could qualify in race trim if you wanted but that would be kinda stupid don't you think

I'm not crying, i hated this qualifying BS ever since it started. Kasey is my guy you don't see me crying because he isn't in the top 12 or has trouble finishing in the top 20. It would be simple....50 cars come to a race 7 go home, the 7 slowest, not some guy that had the 20th fastest time! Why punish his chances because he was decent that week, he was better than half the cars there? Like some one else said if you didn't make a race, say you were Jeffy and didn't qualify well at Michigan, the next week that team would damn well make sure they had their A game. It would put more pressure on the drivers and the teams, but ultimately we would have the fstest cars on the track every week like it should be.

BP, I can't imagine anything being anymore simple than the fastest 43 cars making the race.

Keep in mind that sometimes the status quo needs to be challenged or things never change.

However, I do agree that in todays world, we tend to have a me, me, me attitude but I'm not so sure this is one of those cases :)

Seems the best way was the old way when they had six or seven provisionals. That way it protected the top drivers and it still gave the bottom feeders a fair shake to get into the race. Change isn't always good.

Even if they went back to the old system, is it really fair to change in the middle of the year? Shouldn't they finish the season with the same rules they started with?

That would be a good option. I agree that they don't need to change anything in the middle of the season.

Despite Jeff winning back to back from the pole how often do we see a fast qualifying car win the race? If it was all about qualifying wouldn't Newman have had a championship a couple of years back.
Or, to put it another way @ Talledega Harvick qualified very poorly, where did he finish again?
A car may be fast for 2 laps but if that's all they got do they really belong?

Umm you have to qualify first to get into the race , that is the whole point of qualifying.

But obviously people want to change that because Mikey isn't qualifying to get into the race under the current rules. So let's change the qualifying rules to help Mikey. Like he is some NASCAR God or something. There is a whole lotta angst over Mikey not making the freaking races that one would think the foundations of NASCAR will crumble if he doesn't get in.
I know let's all write in to NASCAR to change the rules so Mikey can start on the pole every week. He doesn't even have to qualify. Because you know what, it want make a difference. He still won't win. He's a field filler with a big mouth who likes to stand in front of the TV cameras.
And, say what you want if it weren't for Mikey crying to anyone who will listen we wouldn't be having this conversation. No one, and I mean absolutely no one, gave a rat's ass about Morgan Shepherd being sent home week after week the past several years and I dare say he is of much better character than Michael Waltrip. And, career wise a better racer.

Morgan Shepard...Really did he win the Daytona 500? Maybe draft his way to a win at Dega? HMMM don't think so, while i support changes to the qualifying it is not just for Mikeys' sake i could care less if he makes the race or not, although he is costing me points in my fantasy league. Anyway the changes should be made at the start of next year and IMO just the fastest 43 make it. You qualify on speed you deserve to get in....period end of story.

Let's try finishing a race with the same rules it started with first.
