Myself i never understood why Dale hired him in the first place.

Earnhardt Says Waltrip Needs To Step It Up
Rumors have begun to swirl -- again -- that 41-year-old Michael Waltrip's job with Dale Earnhardt Inc. is in jeopardy. On Wednesday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. said that although it would be a tough decision, there is a good possibility DEI will replace Waltrip when his contract expires at the end of this season. "I know Michael personally would like to finish his career [with DEI

Check out the "Waltrip looking to move on thread"... I'm thinking by the sounds of it Dale Jr., already has the fork out.

Junior wouldnt dare replace Mikey before Talladega, so if a driver change happens expect it after Talladega. Of course, for Junior's own good he wont replace Mikey before Talladega. ;)

I don't believe that Jr. has much say about who stays and who leaves at DEI. That company is owned by his step-mother, Teresa.
He's a hired driver, just like Mikey.
As far as the sponsorship deals are concerned I think you'll find that those too are with DEI and not the drivers.

He is a partner with Teresa in Chance Two Motorsports which fields the Busch car for Martin Truex Jr.

After hearing Jr's Comments I doubt Mikey will help him now.

who do you guys think if Michael gets replaced would be little E's teammate?

Dale jr. said he don't know anymore than anyone else. I bet. He has inside info that we don't have.

The only bad thing about Mikey losing his ride would be that I would probably have to end up listening to DW and Mikey commenting on races. For me both have worn out their welcome. DW at least had something to base his comments on, but Mikey has gotten a swelled head now that he had won a few races.

A lot of fans seem to think that Martin Truex Jr. would be moved up to Cup to fill the vacancy,in case of Michael's departure, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. has stated that Martin will stay in the Busch Series for at least 2 full years before making the jump to full-time Cup racing.
On the other hand,as correctly pointed out previously,Dale Jr. is a hired driver and really doesn't control the bottom line at DEI,so why is He talking this crap in the first place, since it's not His place to hire and/or fire drivers, but is Teresa Earnhardt's place to do so? ^_^

He is trying to light a fire under Mikeys' ass to get him to drive better. Sometimes a team and driver need a little "encouragement" to get them jump started. I think deep down Jr really likes having Mikey as member of DEI. I still feel that those 2 work the best as a team at the Plate tracks, IMO they are the best at getting through traffic and staying ahead at Daytona and Dega. I think what Mikey needs is 1 or 2 wins at non-plate tracks to keep his job at DEI, of course there is that young talent knocking at the door all the time, so anything could happen.

Or he could be helping his dad help him with Boogityboogityboogity lol

His DAD?????

That would be his brother...and i doubt he would go to Fox, if tv were an option it would be NBC with Bestwick.

you mean Darrell and michael arre brothers? i always thought they were father and son.

lets just say this i dont follow it as much as i used to.

With all of the comments about how Lil'E needs to mature to be a car owner could this be his test to see if he has the cajones to fire someone. Perhaps Teresa doesn't want to do it herself. Or, Lil'E puts the word out and other owners start making Mikey an offer so the problem resolves itself.

Isn't there 1 year left on Mikey's contract and 1 year left on the NAPA sponsorship contract? Could it be both go somewhere else? He does bring a lot of attention to his sponsor.

Mikey brings attention to Napa, but also Jr is in the ads on TV a lot more. Maybe Mikey isn't as big a draw as what Napa thinks it should be getting for its dollars.
