Milwaukee NASCAR Busch Series Race Named
"Alan Kulwicki 250 Presented by Forest County Potawatomi Racing"

(West Allis, WI) June 8, 2004 – The Milwaukee Mile and officials with Forest County Potawatomi Racing announced the event name of the Saturday night, June 26 NASCAR Busch Series race.

The “Alan Kulwicki 250 Presented by Forest County Potawatomi Racing” will be the first event named in honor of Kulwicki, the late NASCAR Winston Cup Champion, who grew up within a mile of the historic speedway.

Kulwicki’s father Jerry will take an active role on race weekend. Although unable to attend the formal announcement, Kulwicki did say in an issued statement, “I’m glad we can do this, to help people remember Alan in a special way and keep his name out there.”

Alan Kulwicki grew up literally within walking distance of The Milwaukee Mile in the 1500 block of South 76th Street, roughly 2 ½ blocks from The Milwaukee Mile office on Greenfield Avenue, which overlooks turn two of the race track.

“We are extremely proud to honor Alan Kulwicki and the Kulwicki family, and appreciate the great support we continue to receive through our relationship with Forest County Potawatomi Racing,” commented Milwaukee Mile Vice President & General Manager Mark Perrone.

For the Forest County Potawatomi nation, this is an extension of their diverse racing involvement, primarily with Wisconsin-based short track race teams and off-road racing teams that compete in Wisconsin.

“As part of the entertainment community of Milwaukee, the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe is proud to partner with The Milwaukee Mile, and be the presenting sponsor of “The Alan Kulwicki 250” at The Milwaukee Mile,” stated tribal member and Assistant General Manager of Potawatomi Kip Ritchie. “Over the past 10 years, the Forest County Potawatomi community has been involved as both an event and as driver sponsors. The tribe currently sponsors 22 race teams on the professional level, including on all 3 classes of Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) Series. The Potawatomi also sponsors young racers who compete in motorcross and go-kart racing.”

The NASCAR stars competing in the “Alan Kulwicki 250 Presented by Forest County Potawatomi Racing” will take the green flag at 8:00pm Central Standard Time on Saturday night, June 26. The NASCAR Busch Series will practice, qualify and race all in one day.
