Minardi under threat?
3 million pound Cosworth bill needs to be paid [18/02/03 - 02:02]

Justin Wilson

ccording to reports in the Independent, the Minardi Formula One team is fighting for survival with only weeks before the official start to the 2003 season at Albert Park in Melbourne Australia. Paul Stoddart needs to come up with approximately three million pounds before Justin Wilson and Jos Verstappen can take part in round one.

Partially due to the situation Cosworth found themselves in last year with the now defunct Arrows Grand Prix team, the engine company is demanding payment from the Faenza based squad up front before supplying them with engine power for the season. Jordan, who will also run with Ford power, have already paid their bill and now Minardi must do the same.

"I hope Minardi will be OK but they've got only a few weeks to pay,” Tony Purnell from Ford said. “It is traditional to pay for things. What happened with Arrows was pretty tough for Cosworth.''

Hopefully the matter will be solved in the coming days and now they have confirmed a new deal with Bridgestone, this should be the final hiccup before the action finally gets underway.

I'm sure they'll come to some sort of understanding, each and every year I get worried for Minardi yet bye bye Arrows and Prost...Some how Minardi always scrap through in one way or another! I'm sure it shall be the same this year....I hope!!

yeah Minardi will pull through and be at Albert Park come time. New sponsor, Halfords, will be a tempory fix, but will they see the end of 2003? I say these teams that have troubles need to consolidate, they need a promising future rather than just getting by all the time.
