Plan B seems to have worked. A hole large enough to extract these guys has been drilled. I can't imagine what these guys/families have been through. Here's to a successful rescue.

Heard yesterday that each man will be given a pair of $1,200 sun glasses. It will take time for them to get back to normal. Also, I had forgotten that bringing them to the surface will be a slow process because of the pressure. Don't want them to get the bends and at twice the depth of the Empire State Building, bringing them one at a time will take some time.

I thought that only applied to water pressure, as air pressure is pretty much the same no matter how deep you drill into the earth. 1 atmosphere is 1 atmosphere.

I'm thinking the same as GS,,,for once:D They're not breathing compressed air as in a SCUBA tank.

It's going to be a slow methodical process bringing them up because they can't rush and damage the drill hole is what I heard.

That's what I thought, but I only mentioned it because I heard it on NPR radio. Also, they reported that a sort of steel tube would be inserted in the drill hole. I wonder how that would go. And they said that a one man capsule would be used to bring the men up.

Ahh. That explains it. Must be that snarky NPR humor that noone really gets outside of Prarie Home Companion. ;)

Now don't get me wrong...I only listen to NPR because I want to hear talk and I can't get Limbaugh since they changed stations. I laugh though when people say that NPR isn't liberal in it's reporting. Friday, it was a constant reporting of something bad about the Republican party or anything conservative. You have to hear what your opponents say and think all the time.

Pressure is higher below the surface of the earth no matter where you go. Miners have had problems with the bends for centuries, for example. Fun fact, if you were somehow able to drill to the center of the earth, its highly probable you would be weightless at the core.

The way I heard it...the bends, AKA nitrogen narcosis, only occurs when the pressure reaches 2-4 bar. I don't think you'd get that in a mine.

I was reading an article in the paper yesterday that there was an argument about who was being brought up last. The reason? That person wanted to be in the Guiness Book of World Records for being a minor trapped for the longest time. I'll dig up the article later.

Last one up? My vote goes to the guy whose wife and children have been there everyday,,,along with his girlfriend who btw has a child by him also.

News today said that the main leader of the group will be the last to come up, kind of like the captain of a ship going down, he is the last to leave in order to make sure everyone else is okay.

It's interesting watching this live on TV. Dont' know how much longer I can stay with this.

Pretty powerful stuff this morning! Live video all over the net of the miners being brought to the surface. Amazing IMO, that this is able to be accomplished. It's nice to see a successful conclusion to this story. :beerbang:

Sadly, agenda driven programming will push this to the side any minute. Powerful stuff last night on msnbc and CNN.

Shame. I turned on MSNBC and FOX Noise tonight, agenda driven programming tops the top story in the world.

Cable news channels have completely forgotten their place in the world.

Andy, since you want to be a reporter, why don't you do a Ted Turner and start your own news service.

Is there anything in this world that you like?

Get a job!!!!!

33 out at 8pm ctz. They all thanked the United States of America for the technology that saved them and the Chilean Navy for the capsule design. Great day an actual good news story for a change.

All 33 safe, alive and with their families again.

Glad to see CNN and FOX cover this. I have a feeling MSNBC lost a ton of otherwise loyal viewers tonight.
