You know the American music industry is in sad shape when the best New Release is from Miley Cyrus.

The only other thing they've played on the radio today is Britney Spears' awful new ****, Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas.

Man I miss the 90s: Nirvana, Sublime, Sugar Ray, etc...

I agree. Everything is turning into generic pop or country.

There's still good music being released, but it's mainly by artists that been around for a while. Metallica, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, etc still put out good material. But there's lack of talented new artists.

We live in the American Idol generation. Apprently, all people want to listen to these days are generic pop singers, that don't write their own songs, and who's music is dead of emotion and passion.

I agree, it pretty much sucks today.

Of course, I thought it sucked in the 90's too....just not as badly.

Yeah, the 90s did start the decline of music (Eminem, Britney Spears, NSync, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguleria although she actually is a good vocalist).

I was thinking more the music of: Nirvana, Gin Blossoms, Sublime, Sugar Ray, Matchbox 20, Blink 182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.

I like Taylor Swift. The British bands are good as well (Coldplay, The Killers). But the majority of it is just ****.

That said, I can't believe Lady Gaga's song "Love Game" hasn't been banned from radio by the same people who banned Vanessa Carlton (who actually writes her own music and actually has talent, not hard on the eyes either).

The scary part is when you hear 5 year-olds recite these songs word for word. No wonder we have such a huge moral decline. :eek2:

I love Matchbox 20 and Blink 182, truth.

These days I like Coldplay, Nickelback, Daughtry, etc.

Got very disappointed last year with that new Eagles album though.....horrible.

I still listen to the same bands these days.

AC/DC and Metallica's newest albums are pretty good. They're both touring now as well.

Rage Against the Machine is back together too. They're just doing single shows, but there's talk they might do a new studio album. I think Tom Morello is one of the best guitarists ever. He's easly in my top-3 behind Hendrix and Slash.

Taylor Swift isn't bad, but I generally don't like counrty and she mixes it with pop. But to her credit she does write most of her songs.

I think part of the problem is that no one wants to stand out. No one wants to be the band to stur-up trouble, say something that makes people mad, or gets them in trouble with their record label.

In other words: no one wants to be bigger than Jesus.

I know what you mean. I have always loved Rock music more than any other form of music and to see to see what has become of it and the way people act towards it now a days is just sad. I noticed you mentioned Nirvana, i bring this up as i have always belived that it was when Kurt Kobain died that began the end of main stream rock music. Since he died rock music just seemed to fade away, new bands would come out get one of there songs played and a month later thats it there off main stream air waves. Only good thing that has come out of it is true rock fans are now listening to more classics which is good but at the same time theres no big bands like Zeplin, the Stone, ACDC, or Nirvana that have massive cult followings that lead to major air time. As someone said alot of the good music still beging played is from classic artists that have returned. There still is a small number of bands now today i would pay music to buy there album, but unfortinitly after i hear one or two songs on main stream they dont recive anymore air time and thats the last i hear from them and they never mention when a new album comes out. Thats why i listen to rock stations but unfortinitly we only got 2 left here, all the other have turned into main stream pop stations or rap music.

Actually, all of you are newbies to music and missed the Golden Age.

The golden age of baseball was the 40's through the 60's. After that there has been a steady decline. The same is true of music, the Golden age was the 50's through the 60's. The world will probably never again hear music as great and ground breaking as back then.

Most of you have probably never heard of Johnny Ace who would have been a great one if not for his murder (some say it was suicide). And the opposite of Johnny Ace was the great Buddy Holly who lost his life at an early age. There were so many great ones through that period whose music actually belong in the HOF.

Now that was the birth of Rock n Roll. BTW muggle, can you still shag? Those old 50's and 60's songs are great to shag to.

The list of modern artists I can tolerate is dwindling like the economy..

This is where my original post comes in to play. I have the Sirius XM groups on my facebook and people are on there complaining about Jordin Sparks.

WTF?

I'm not a fan of Jordin Sparks by any means. Don't know (or care) who she is. But her song (that they've been playing every 20 minutes) isn't atrocious. I can actually tolerate it. I chime in and say I can tolerate Jordin Sparks but would like to see Lady Gaga go away. Well, apparently people actually like this **** so much so it's in the top 5. :(

Don't even get me started on Lady Gaga's contribution to the moral decline of society. Vanessa Carlton's song "White Houses" was banned from radio and television because of "suggestive lyrics".

Um, MTV and ClearChannel, it doesn't get any more suggestive than this:
Got my ass squeezed by sexy Cupid
Guess he wants to play,
Wants to play
A love game
A love game

Hold me and love me
Just want to touch you for a minute
Baby three seconds is enough for my heart to quit

Let's have some fun,
This beat is sick
I wanna take a ride on your disco stick
Don't think too much just bust that dick
I wanna take a ride on your disco stick

...

I'm on a mission,
And it involves some heavy touchin' yeah.
You've indicated your interest,
I'm educated in sex, yes.
And now I want it bad,
Want it bad.
A love game,
A love game.

...

I can see you staring there from across the block with a smile on your mouth and your hand on your huh
The story of us it always starts the same with a boy and a girl and a huh and a game!
And a game
And a game
And a game
A love game!

HELLO?!?!?! :confused::rolleyes:

They play this on mainstream radio?

I remember when the Rolling Stones got banned for saying "I'm just trying to score some chicks" or something to that effect in Satisfaction.

I like new and old country and rock music. But the rock I like is mainly the old rock. Sweet Home Alabama is still the best song ever IMO. Anyway the artist I listen to are.(this is new and old stuff)

Taylor Swift,Brad Paisley,Alan Jackson,George Straight,Carrie Underwood,AC/DC,Lynyrd Skynyrd,Josh Turner,and a few more.

These is still some good music coming out, but it isn't anything on the pop stations.

The following newest releases are their bests, as far as I'm concerned.

Illusion Of Progress by Staind is one of their best yet

Broken Lands by Indigenous is, by far, their best

Welcome To The Drama Club by Everclear is really good

Continuum by John Mayer shows some real musical growth.

Some of these performers are certainly not what you would consider mainstream, being on an every 30 minute loop on the pop stations, but they are putting out really good music. Sometimes you just have to put a little effort into finding good music. I always have had to, as my tastes have never ran to the current "top 40".

I agree, I listen to mostly rock, alternative rock, classic rock, and country. I hate rap and pop music.

Yes, I too, like staind.;)

Oh and Blaze88, no offense but Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood arent true country artists, I consider them pop singers.;)

That's why I go to 181fm and record the 90's channel as mp3 and play in my vehicle. Also My home audio reciever (Pioneer SC05) plays online music as well. Thank god.

That is something that old timers have been saying about many of the "new" country artists. Rascal Flats? Shania Twain? Country music has changed dramatically through the years, hence it is no longer called "country and western" music. Just as Rock is no longer called Rock N Roll, because it has evolved, so has country music.

Exactly right. I don't like much of the stuff they play on country stations. I've never been a huge country music fan anyway. But, I do really like several artists. Dwight Yoakam, Travis Tritt, Clint Black and several others are guys I listen to quite a bit. I also like Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith and a few others of the current artists they play are pretty good too. I can't stand Rascal Flats, Lonestar, or any of those guys who all sound like chicks. They all sound the same and they all sound horrible. I'd much rather listen to Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Sr or Jr., Alan Jackson, or many of the older guys.

There have been a few women I've listened to over the years too. Deana Carter is great. She is smokin' hot and has an awesome, very sexy voice. "Strawberry Wine" is a perfect example of why i like her. Patti Loveless is an older woman I liked a lot too. Shania Twain has some great songs as well, but then she puts out some really bad stuff too.

Well they are Country Pop...but hehe I'll let it slide since you like Danica haha

Reminds me of my 1st trip to Vegas, early 80s. I rent a car to drive to the Grand Canyon. On my return I asked the rental clerk if they could adjust the rental rate as there was something wrong with the radio. They started filling out the repair forms before they asked me what was wrong. I told'em it only got country and western music...

And that is a true story.
