Monte Dutton, tell us what you really think.

Is attendance down? Stop estimating it. Are there lots of empty seats? Tear down grandstands. Does some web study indicate that what’s changing isn’t the racing but the rules? Suppress the evidence.

Perfect.

nascar is a multi-billion dollar industry run by one family of people engaged in sibling rivalries. That's the biggest problem.

When will it change? Really? When will this crop of despots finally decide they're old enough or defunct enough to pass it on? Hell, I'm really digging this nascar thing but many problems are obvious and I'm worried about the long term.

I remember reading a Brian quote earlier in the year about how since he's taken over he's changed things in part to create his own legacy separate from his dad and grandfather. That's part of the problem, IMO. In no other American sport does someone like the commissioner say something like that.

Television ratings are public knowledge. I can pull them up on various websites. NASCAR reporters tweet the ratings every week. The ratings are posted on Jayski's website. Networks tweet their ratings. People can draw their own conclusions. I drew a conclusion about Bristol's miserable ratings and that conclusion is that FOX Sports 1 sucks.

I think NASCAR truly believes that if no one tells us things are bad, then we'll never figure it out on our own. It was downright surreal seeing the stands at Bristol last week. I remember a time in the not too distant past when Bristol was the hardest ticket to get in NASCAR, and there were actually waiting lists to get a ticket there. Now, I know weather played a huge factor last weekend, but I bet there weren't 40,000 people there at the end of the Cup race last week, there may have been 70-80k earlier in the day. The place just looked eerily empty.

Oh man, 40,000? I'd divide that by 8 and still think it was wishful thinking. I firmly believe the weather was the biggest factor. I checked tickectmaster and they showed nearly all tickets gone. It's just that we all spent an entire week listening to people say there was a 100 percent chance of rain and no racing on sunday.

I live 65 miles away so it ain't much of a haul for me to drive over just in case but some people who had to go a bit further just probably figured it'd be cancelled sunday. I honestly went with little to no hope of seeing a race.... Had to though, just in case.

Now, it looks like Martinsville is gonna be nice.... I CAN'T wait!

Yeah, 40k may have even been a bit generous. I stayed for the whole thing though, and glad I did :)

To be fair, Bristol used to have a later date for the Spring race. Now, it's in the middle of March where the weather is wacky. NASCAR keeps moving Bristol and Martinsville's spring races up earlier and earlier and they keep moving Martinsville's fall race back later and later. The dates are absolutely atrocious. Average is 59° for both races which, let's be honest, that's not very pleasant weather.

When the person that is in charge of where Nascar is going, says publicly, that he is not a racing fan, (not just Nascar but all types of racing)
I would think that will be the biggest obstacle to success. I mean, how many people want to create a legacy in something that they have no interest in?

Notice that when tracks look like bare-boned skeletons they completely stop releasing attendance information, but now that one race sells out, they're suddenly very willing to make a big deal out of it.
Yep...That's the NASCRAP way...But still not something they should be hanging their hat on...84,000 fannies is laughable from what this sport once was.............BTW...Watch Fox Sports make a big deal over it....They will be showing the grandstands all race long...............

Actually, it's fewer seats than that --- Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, site of this weekend's NASCAR race, has slashed its grandstand capacity by 26% to 68,000 seats from 92,000, a track spokesman said Friday.

That's like a kid trumpeting that he got an A on an exam, only after the teacher curved it by two letter grades.

NASCAR crowd reminds me of Larry Woody description of Vandy football game. Between frat kids arriving late and old alums leaving early... Damnedest traffic jam you ever saw
