Montoya Fined And put On Probation

Oh my.... Guess he will watch his gesters from now on out. Wonder who he was mad at anyway. Looks like Nascar woud rather him gesture with his finger instead of his bumper like he has been doing.

:)

Juan Pablo Montoya has been fined $10,000 and placed on probation for the rest of the year by NASCAR for an "inappropriate gesture" the driver made during a Busch Series practice session last Thursday at Phoenix International Raceway.

The gesture was captured on Speed television, and the Chip Ganassi Racing driver apparently didn't know the camera was being used for live TV.

His Chip Ganassi Racing team won't appeal, a spokesperson said.

"I really feel bad that the incident happened." Montoya said in a statement from the team. "It was only meant as a joke to one of my friends. I completely understand NASCAR's point of view and their decision."

He was fined under Section 12-4-A of the Busch Series rule book (actions detrimental to stock car racing) of the NASCAR Busch Series rule book).

Also, Todd Brewer, crew chief for David Gilliland's No. 25 Team Rensi Motorsports Busch Series Ford, was fined $2,500 for unapproved, hollow jacking bolts.

I love it! I can't stand his holier-than-thou attitude. Seems a lot of the open wheel guys suffer from it.

This sport is full of this type of guys, and they aren't all from the open wheel ranks either. This particular gesture has been used by probably every driver out there, and plenty of them have been caught on camera. Some have been penalized for it and others have gotten away with it. In these days of political correctness, even in NASCAR, it's harder to get away with anything that looks bad for the guys. It's getting to where if one of the guys farts, he'll be fined.

Do you think maybe they are glad he is gone.

I know some F1 fanatics and they all agreed in one thing..

They are glad Juan Pablo Diablo is gone from F1. That's exactly what they say. LOL Diablo..too funny

Ah yes. My brother-in-law has this picture and autographs of most of the guys in it. However, he almost lost his copy when he stood in line for an hour or so to have DE autograph it. Dale was at his dealership in Newton, NC where my BIL lives close by and thought since DE was there signing autographs, he might as well get DE's on the picture as well. When he put it down in front of Ironhead, DE looked up at my BIL and was ready to trash the picture. DE asked my BIL where he got the picture and Mike quickly grabbed the picture and left. DE was going to tear it up and throw it away. Anyway, as one can see, NASCAR has changed a lot over the years and if something like this were to appear today, all hell would break loose in the NASCAR truck.

This forum seems like the ignorance is bliss foundation.

Two-time series champion Tony Stewart made the same gesture toward Jimmie Johnson during a March race in Atlanta this season and was not penalized. That also was captured on live TV, but NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said he was unaware of Stewart’s gesture when asked about it this week.

But Stewart’s gesture was so obvious that Johnson saw it from his rearview mirror and complimented Stewart the next week for being able to wave a finger while also preventing his car from crashing.

Stewart also made the same gesture at Carl Edwards last year at Pocono and was not penalized.

I don't make it up, I just report it.
