Did anyone hear Montoya say he enjoyed racing at Bristol. Darrell said he hadn't raced there yet. Said wait till a few laps Sunday. First thing he did was go out and about slap the wall. Just took one lap. LOL. Qualified 37th.

I hope Montoya isn't behind Jeff Gordon this weekend. They refer to Bristol as the Payback track. Gordon definently deserves it, too.
 
Deserve it? ARE YOU DEAD? anyone with half a brain knows that Jeff was racing to get his lap back..plus he was faster then Montoya. Go whine with Montoya
 
Montoya, so far has run decent on big tracks where he's been accoustomed to running like in his open wheel cars.
Bristol and Martinsville are going to be a big wake-up to this over-rated rookie.

I don't call that overrated. The guy has a natural talent.

If you don't like the guy, that's fine. I'm not particulary fond of him myself.

But calling him over-rated is absurd.

Jeff Gordon thinks he owns the track. He would've been running his mouth if Montoya held him up. Jeff wasn't faster than Montoya, he was trying to prevent the 42 from getting to Johnson. Montoya was the FASTEST CAR on the racetrack when Jeff did this stuff. I would've put him in the wall, myself. 4-time champion or not, Jeff demands respect, he should give the same.
 
Montoya over rated ?? You gotta be kidding !!! Already won a Busch race and finished quite well at Bristol with very little damage to his car. Like him or not, the guy is good.

On the Montoya / JGordon thing at Atlanta.
Montoya had nothing to gain racing Gordon hard at that point in the race.
In a subsequent interview, Montoya said he understood Gordon was trying to be in position for the "lucky dog".

Can't agree with the thought Gordon was trying to protect Johnson by racing Montoya. Unless, of course, Gordon's plan was to act as buffer for Johnson the remainder of the event.

Most of the time, when racing a lap car who is as fast or faster, as Gordon was with Montoya, it is prudent to let them have the spot. Montoya, at the time, and apparently many others, failed to recognize that bit of wisdom. :)
 
I gotta chime in on this Montoya thing. As most of you already know, I've not been a big fan of his. Far from it. My problem has been that everyone from NASCAR to the TV networks and many fans have been showering him with such high kudos that it made me sick. I was secretly, or openly to many, hoping this kid would fall flat on his face on the track. Well that didn't happen and he's proven to me to be one fine, if not great driver. Over the years, I've watched drivers from different types of cars, great drivers in their own field, hop into a Cup car and think that they can do the same in one of those big lumbering cars. For the most part, it just doesn't happen and many are here and gone quickly. Most of those have been drivers in our open wheel series, either IRL or CART which is now Champ Cars. Witness Paul Tracy and a few others who just either didn't stick with it long enough, or weren't able to make the change. Some have been able to stay with it long enough to be able to stake a claim at being a road racer "ringer" for the two road races. But JPM doesn't seem to have a major problem in the learning curve. I look forward to him being quite the contestant in many more races to come. I'm not going to root for him, but will enjoy watching him race.
 
I will reserve my judgment of Montoya. Granted he was pretty good in a few other racing series but until he consistently runs in the top 10 and wins a Championship he is still, to me, just another driver striving to compete with the proven winners in Nascar.

Mark Martin, just another driver striving to compete with the proven winners in NASCAR? Sorry, but I just couldn't resist. In today's standards, would you consider Dale Jarrett anything other than striving to compete with proven winners? I mean he did win a Championship. The field is full of good and great drivers and most of them have never won the Championship in NASCAR's Cup series.
 
I enjoyed watching JPM race open-wheel. I'm enjoying watching him race our "taxi-cabs" ---LOL

He is entertaining to watch, and brings his enthusiasm to the track every weekend.
 
:D Yep, I should have said until he runs consistenlty in the top 10....and omitted that bit about winning a Championship. :D

He didn't seem to be to popular at the track this weekend. Lots and lots of people booed when they said his name.
 
my opinion, if Jeff Gordon is a lap down you are one stupid MF'er i you let him get it back. as much as i dislike him any time he is on the lead lap he is a threat.
