I heard Pete Pistone talking about this yesterday morning on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's The Morning Drive and now I see that Jayski has picked up this story as well. Right now the talk seems to be geared towards Nationwide and the Truck Series with hopes adding Cup to the schedule. Yeah, OK, where does that race come from?

The facility looks pretty good. I'd still rater see them add a road course race here in the US though. My choice is still to have them run the road course layout @ Daytona giving them the diversity of both the road course and the high banks to run on. Even so, I'd give it a shot of running up there to attend the race. It's closer to me than many of the others that I attend.

This weekend's annual Nationwide race in Montreal might be just a taste of what's to come north of the border for NASCAR.

Since 2007, the Nationwide Series has visited the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road circuit. Every year, rain or shine the event draws one of the largest and most enthusiastic crowds of the entire season.

The success of the race has sparked speculation more of NASCAR's top divisions may compete in Canada in the not too distant future including the Sprint Cup Series.

Canadian road racing ace Ron Fellows, who will compete for JR Motorsports this weekend in Montreal, is now co-owner of what was once known as Mosport International Raceway, a storied motorsports facility in Ontario that includes a 2.5-mile road circuit as well as a one mile oval track.

Fellows has made it clear he would like nothing more than to bring a NASCAR Nationwide and/or Camping World Truck Series race to what's now known as Canadian Tire Motorsports Park sooner rather than later.

"We've talked to NASCAR and yes while we weren't able to put it together for 2012, we're pursuing something for our 2013 schedule," said Fellows.

Full story here.

Im kinda in the middle about this one. Great track and I would like to see a road course added to the cup schedule but like DP I would like to see it at the Daytona layout at least once in my lifetime.

On my morning commute this morning the president of Daytona Speedway, Joie Chitwood, just happened to be on The Morning Drive and they asked him about running the road course @ Daytona to which he replied that he thought it would not be a good show and highly doubted that it would ever happen. :( Now I am on to my second choice, Laguna Seca. I'd never be able to afford a trip out there to watch the race but I'd like to see it run on TV.

I'd like to see Mid-Ohio on the Nationwide or Cup schedule, and definitely New Jersey on the Truck Series schedule.

Did Joie Chitwood watch the Daytona 500? It doesn't get much worse than that "race" was.

Chitwood is well known to not be the roundest tire on a rim, if you catch my drift.

As much as I enjoyed the watkins Glen race this past weekend I have to say the idea of the Cup cars running the roadcourse at Daytona makes me want to puke. Even the sportscar guys and AMA bike racers hate the track the only reason they show up is because it kicks off their seasons and pays Big Bucks/Points.
If you've never riden around it, it's flat no elevation change no off camber corners Extermely small run off areas transistions up and out of the big track are ridiculous. Throw 3400 lb full body live axle 9" tired Cup cars out there and the Fans would never forgive you.
VIR in Virginia would be an interesting choice for a new roadcourse in my opinion. As would Road Atlanta....but then you could'nt get anyone to show up at RA :( Why is it the Atlanta metro area fails to support any kind of sports anyway?

Are there Safer Barriers at this track?
Don't know but I'd guess that they'd be installing them pretty quick if they have the chance at a race. As far as safer barriers and road courses go though, they don't completely surround Watkins Glen either.

I'm tossed up on this one as well. I would love to see a Cup race in Canada and a road course would be awesome, but Montreal is a street course I would rather see them at Mossport a dedicated road course.

I agree.

My original post in this thread was only about Mosport. Someone else took it another direction. Heck, I posted a video link, track map and website link. I'm all outta options.;)

They usually say everything they do anymore is because of COST or safety.Doesn't seem cost worthy to take a race from here in the states and move it to Canada?

Take a lap @ Mosport.

Thanks for posting DP. I am not familar with the track but it looks pretty good and pretty high speed for a road course. I love road course racing in general so I'd be happy with it. Just something about that street course in Montreal gets me going. Seems no matter what they put out there it's a great race.

Wish you could have seen the old Can-am cars running at Mosport, crazy fast. The ALMS run there now but nothing like the old big blocks puting out 1000 plus hp man they were something.

Thanks DP, thats a good lap, dont know anything about the track, like to see the cup cars on it at least one time though. It would be a better lap if it was the sound of a cup car though.

I think nascar should ask Jacque what to do. I don't really like that road course. It looks like a Bunny, and bunnies scare me.

They could have a figure 8 race in the middle of times square and still wouldn't tear up as many cars as JV does.

He would have plenty of opportunities to use that famous line of his. "It had nothing to do with me, so I don't care".

Yeah he said that when he was the one who caused all the crashes. That's like me shooting someone in the head and saying well, he should've dodged the bullet. Not my fault.

JV does bend alot of sheet metal but one point he made was that even if Patrick causes the accident, someone else is going to get the blame. We seen it at Watkins Glen and while I agree that Truex could've made a better decision, to say the he wrecked her is, IMO, a long shot at best. JV flat out wrecked her.

He's comparing Apples to Oranges. JV says some real stupid things. I think he should be tested.

After looking at some more videos on YouTube I have to say MoSport would be a bada** track for Nascar. I just watched a Nascar Canada video from there and it was pretty good racing. Can't beleive I've been missing this track all these years:confused:

I liked the relaxed rule book approach.[/quote]

The craziest Can-am car of all time, the 1970 Chapparrel 2J "sucker car" it had two fans on the back that sucked air under the car creating huge downforce.
